Have you tried reinstalling Matlab? 'MCR Instance' seems to have something to do with that program.

I have. Didn't work. So I guess I'm screwed until I change computer and try to install it on a new one, which is not in the cards for now. Or maybe when Dre releases his version 2.0, maybe that one will work instead. In the meantime, no progress can be made.

You said you have no idea why, but... Possibly a Windows auto update? Did you install anything little something else that might have secretly upgraded some library file? I'm deathly afraid of some of my little video software tools suddenly not working so a part of me really wants to know what happened here (but if the answer is "I already said I don't know" then understood and sorry).

I actually do suspect it might be a Windows update at fault here, as I don't see what else has changed recently on my PC.

You could maybe make a new partition on your PC and for a dual-boot system, then do a new install of Windows for using the tool (and maybe some other stuff) and prevent it from accessing the internet. Or maybe a USB boot disk will work.
