I actually finished this project three times but never released it since I was never 100% satisfied with the results.

Looking forward to your zoom in version.

Thanks

Forgot to mention the Bluray source I used is the US Best Buy Exclusive version which has higher bitrate and much better compression than the standard Bluray.

Finally got around to finishing my own hybrid version of this using smart rendering in Videoredo.

Managed to get rid of the duplicate location sub at the beginning using frame repeat.

Also, instead of going with Open Matte crop scene just prior to the credits (didn't like the way the Open Matte crops the bottom of the fuse been lit) decided to go with the 2:35 for that scene and then to Open Matte just after as the fuse starts to ignite and move, looks ok.

Left both the duplicate title card and Dubia location subs as I am not that skilled with the masking method or have access to the hdtv Open Matte's.

Had a nightmare syncing it to the Bluray despite it been exactly framed matched to it (Videoredo removed some audio frames during smart rendering so maybe that is why) but ended up going with a delay of 334 ms and everything appears in sync (maybe not 100% perfect). Left it in a mkv container as when using a Bluray structure the picture stutters arounf the edit points, while in mkv, plays perfect.

Hopefully, PDB gets around eventually to doing his expanding frame version.

Honestly, I think you should release your version X5gb. At this point there isn't much more I can offer this project over what you did and it seems bluebird (a site I don't have access to) has a superior copy then any of mine. Beside, the opening frame only works properly going from 2.35 to 1.33.

PDB, my version is not perfect, as I said, the sync is not 100% (despite been frame matched exactly to the Best Buy Bluray), it needs tweaking, if you or someone could have a look at it and help make it perfect there welcome to pm me. I am not the best with matching waveforms and as there were alot of repeat frames added at the beginning to remove the first duplicate Budapest sub it completely messed up the sound on the resultant smart render so I don't have anything to match the Bluray sound to.
Also as I didn't do a full encode, rather I wanted it as untouched as possible (outside of the smart rendered edits) it can only be played in mkv container without stutter. Also I need help from someone who can remove the duplicate film title and Dubai subs or give me Open Matte unsubbed versions just for these bits so I can add them in, I would be very grateful.

Again, if anyone can help please PM me.

I'll help you anyway I can. I can definitely take a look, since I know this movie inside and out now.

I don't like leaving in the doubled location subs though, it would be nice if this was fixed. I also think that in a few spots there are German subs for actual voice, possibly in the prison with the Russian prison guards? Or are those all Non-Open Matte?

Regarding the lit fuse, am I right in assuming the normal Blu Ray shows the fuse being actually lit further at the bottom? If so, how about going pillarbox there and combining the image of Blu Ray and IMAX to get an even bigger image, getting effectively even more Open Matte? IMAX originals are somewhat 4:3-ish anyway. Would seem like the more elegant solution, revealing as much as possible of the image.

The scenes with Russian dialogue are all Non-Open Matte where the German subs are Burned in, thank god. The hybrid has the correct English subs (either Burned in or Forced) exactly as the Bluray in yellow. Hopefully PDB can help with removing the film title and Dubai subs. The first Budapest location sub I managed to remove using frame repeat. The scene before the fuse is lit is very heavily cropped on the sides of the WEB-DL not Open Matte except for maybe a little at the top where as the Bluray shows more at the bottom where the fuse is lit so where I have flipped to Open Matte is a good compromise unless PDB may have a better point.

Oh. So you haven't actually removed any real Open Matte material, only the cropped 2,35:1 of the WEB-DL? I assumed that was what you had done to the entire video, so I thought you mentioning this part in particular meant that you left out some Open Matte material.
