Trying some color correction LUTs and seeing if I can get my project closer to Lil Brutto's project. Its not perfect but a little closer.

I'm assuming you're referring to the MGM 4K, which does NOT look like Leone's work other than the image is more film-like (a good thing) than video-like of the Mondo. The 4K scan is undoubtedly superior to the nearly decade old scan used for the Mondo BD. Too bad L'Immagine Ritrovata digitally applied their own style to the 4K scan and ruined it.

The sky color varies from scene to scene and even shot to shot on the IB tech prints. As for the shot with Clint in the poncho, 3 IB tech prints show a blue sky.

PDB is attempting to match the colors of the IB tech prints. I think he's taken a step in the right direction.

There's only so much you can adjust the colors of a BD before other aspects of the image begin to suffer. A closer examination of the last 3 screencaps shows the leathery skin tones are in keeping with the IB techs but the whites of their eyes are no longer white. (At least on my laptop screen.) However, screencaps are notorious for exaggerating aspects like this and it may not be as obvious when watching the film. Also, a blanket color correction is not a "one size fits all" because there is variation throughout the film but there is only so much you can do.

For sure! I think the MGM 4K look is due to the negative deterioration, it might have faded a bit over the years no? They probably decided on this look because that's the best they could do due to the fading.
