We Are The Walking Dead (Mini-Series) FANedit
Thanx Andrea!

There are two versions of the English subtitles:
English Hearing Impaired subtitles: 1523 entries
English "Standard" subtitles: 1247 entries

For the foreign language subtitles, should I include a "hearing impaired" version or should it only be the "standard?"
Let me know what you guys think and I will start supplying (as I assemble them) the foreign audio tracks and the English subtitles to use as a templateWink

I'd add both...

Ok, that can be done very easily. I will provide the English Hearing Impaired subtitles as the "template" for the foreign language translations. Once I receive the translated subtitles, I can cut out the hearing impaired parts myself for the "standard" subtitles.

As far as the assembling of the foreign language tracks is concerned, this will be a two-step process:

-First, I am putting together the center channel sourced from all the various encodes that I acquired. (where I already did the work of syncing the foreign language tracks to the source English tracks before I used them in my project) But since I am using the English language timeline for these foreign tracks, at times, there is dialog abruptly cut or fading in dialog from a previous shot/scene. I have to manually re-adjust some of these to make sure they are correct. Then, I will supply that center channel for verification by those that speak each of the languages. Once I have a confirmation...

-that's where step two comes in... Here, I will give the center channel a "lot of love," clean them as much as possible without distorting the audio, then will cut a lot of the parts where there is no dialog out and replace it with the lossless audio from the English master. This is not real hard to do and shouldn't take me long to put together. (I have already figured out the process for this, made numerous tests, and should have no problems making it sound proper)

Today, I did the first step for the Polish and Russian audio tracks. It took me about 90 minutes for each one. This means that when I wake up tomorrow and resume the work on this, I should be able to assemble the French, Italian, and Spanish language tracks.

I hope that jedeitor is still willing to verify the Spanish track and help with subtitlesWink
I hope that Andrea is willing to do the same with the ItalianWink

At that point, I still have to find someone for the French and Russian (as the person that was going to help me with the Russian track/subtitles has not responded to my e-mails for almost a month) If I can't find anyone for those, I will still include the audio, but I'm not sure about subtitles at that point as I would have to use "google translator" for them and we all know how "accurate" that is, LOL. Plus, I won't be able to say that they are verified to be correctSad

Alright, now it's time for some sleepBig Grin

Information
This is a major update and will be a long post... you have been warned, LOL  Tongue

Ok, so I now have the first stage complete for all of the foreign language tracks. I have noticed a few things while working on this. First, in most cases, if I had an issue with crossfading dialog properly (due to cuts, etc.) and had to play some tricks to get it to work, in most cases I had to do the same thing on all the dubs. Next, the pitch was unchanged for the PAL conversion, therefore not an issue when slowing down to 23,976fps EXCEPT the Spanish dub. When syncing the center channel of the different dubs, I noticed that in most cases the dubs sync properly to the other channels (which I will be using from the lossless English "master" with a couple modifications when dialog is panned to those channels) and I will be able to fix the sync issues on the center channel by replacing the audio (of course, when there is no dialog) with the English "master" which is lossless. BUT the Spanish dub, no matter how well aligned it was, never sounded right UNTIL I adjusted the pitch. Now it sounds right. Well, kinda, the foley/sfx/music sound right, but the dialog sounds off a little bit, so...hmmm...I'll figure this one out, don't worryWink

I am pretty sure that I have all the dialog properly aligned (with no clipping words/sentences/etc.) BUT there were certain instances where I have cut out a scene and there is a momentary dialog clip at the end/beginning of a shot/scene. These can be easily fixed in post-production (when I assemble the custom 5.1 tracks) and the only reason I'm mentioning it is because I want the people verifying the dubs to be aware of the fact that I know this happens in a few places. (there will be a more detailed list below)

I'm encoding a low-bitrate, small SD "workprint" that's timecoded to use for reference to the audio/subtitles/my notes below. It should be done in about two and a half hours. Then I will mux separate files for each language. The reason for this is because you guys will have a much smaller file to download and my upload rate to MEGA is fast enough where it doesn't matter to meWink
I will send you guys PMs with links once I have them uploaded. The downloads will include the video/your audio language and the English Hearing Impaired subtitles. Don't worry about making a second "standard" version as I can do that part myselfWink Unless you want to, but it's not necessaryBig Grin

I'm excited that this project is finally at this stage! Once the tracks have been verified and the subtitles are translated there are only a few more steps before release:

-Assembling the custom 5.1 audio tracks for each foreign language.

-Finish the work on the custom 5.1 foley/sfx/music only track (this is over 50% finished now)

-Record a "commentary track" and mix it with the 5.1 track. Here, I am still undecided on whether I want to reduce the volume of the entire center track and layer my voice over it (as I have seen on most commentary tracks out there, assuming they are 5.1 because most are 2.0 and they just reduce volume while the commentary is "on" and boost back to regular volume when nothing is being said) OR I could use that custom 5.1 foley/sfx/music only track and layer my voice over the center channel there... Honestly, regardless of suggestions here (although they are still welcome) I will probably try both and see which one works/sounds better

-Finish the design I started for the cover art.

-try to figure out exactly what image ( and how to properly cut it in) to use for the disc art

-finish the designs I have started for the different menus on the disc

-finish the designs for the menu buttons(this is very customizable with what I am using and I want to take advantage of it as much as possible so I'm investing a little extra time into some of these "small things" as IMHO it's the little touches that make/break a release

-finish assembling the custom trailer. this is an idea that I don't think I have mentioned here yet and if I did, it was in a dismissive manner. Trying to put this together, has been a HUGE pain in the ass. First, I had to figure out exactly which shots I want to use for the trailer which will present itself as a trailer for my cut and not a fantrailer for season 1 of the actual show. Some people might say there is no difference since that's the footage I'm using, but I am trying to present the story differently than in the show; this will become more and more obvious as the next films are assembled... shit getting off topic, LOL... ok, anyway, figuring out exactly which parts of dialog to use and where... on-screen text, leading to the title with certain "key phrases"... and, the hardest part, scoring the entire thing properly, while still using some (but not all) of the foley present in the "original footage" but making sure that any shot that comes from a scene with music present is only video with dialog voiced-over it from a different scene. There is enough dialog spoken by Rick, Daryl, and Glenn in the entire first season (including parts I didn't use in this cut, but could use for the trailer for a couple words) that assembling this is not hard but is time-consuming because I have to locate all the footage... anyway, yeah, huge pain Dodgy Confused

-author the bd

-then RELEASE, yay  Big Grin

-then encoding all down-scaled versions and releasing those...

-then, on to the next film of the seriesWink

Ok, so that all... now it's time for a list of each language and the issues that I am already aware of that need to be fixed in post(-production) and is a direct copy/paste from my changelog file for this project...

POLISH:

01:39-where shane says holyshit, had to adjust a little bit(extend by one second)need to check if aligns with other channels in post
29:30-I noticed the audio from 1stpart matches video for 2nd part so if necessary (because of dialog cut there) extend the 1st audio to 29:32 with a 2 second crossfade on channels 12456
52:50-the thing about puppies&kittens had to be retimed and may not blend correctly with other channels(will see if any tricks can be played in post)
1:02:50-morales translation is late but was easy fix, assuming that other channels will align properly
1:08:42-dale's dialog issue...overlap of cut english dialog with polish lektor...fuck... will have to phasecancel (personal note, don't ask) that shit out
1:13:11-rick sayin thanx and shane's that's up2u might b problematic...
1:25:55-the dialog here might b tricky

16:55-dialog bleed needs to be fixed in post
21:59-same as above
1:07:25-same as above(this one can't be fixed because of dialog bleed into the yelling of kid, so the yelling HAS to be faded in where it is so it might have to stay "as-is)"

1:02:47-same as above(was kind of fixed but throws music off but can be fixed in post)
1:20:50-same as last one
1:28:47-sounds like a glitch in the spanish source audio and i'll see if i can track down a different source to replace that
1:47:57-this one is not a fuck up but a funny moment in transitions where the woman making groaning noises so close together makes it sound like there's a cheap adult video playing in the background,LOL

Hey, while I was busy making silly jokes I forgot to comment 2 things!

I'd love to see that trailer! I'm sure I will want to change your cut, as usually. LOL

What image are you using for the cover? I would go with the "lonely Rick" images they have been providing since the start of the series.

I would use this posters for the first 5 movies:
