| Is it worth trying to clean up YouTube rips? |

Hi.
I happened upon a YouTube upload of an old kung fu movie that's stuck in rights hell. The movie has had DVD releases but in either full screen or cropped widescreen. The YouTube upload is a Japanese VHS that's actually wider than the UK DVD. It may be OAR or at least the closest to it.
YouTube makes it harder to contact uploaders, so in lieu of somehow arranging a higher quality source to work from or trying to find an original copy of the tape, is it worth working with a YouTube rip?
For what it's worth, the letterboxed DVD of this one did get a well done fan restoration/upscale. It looks quite nice, but I'd be lying if I didn't say it'd be nice to see the movie in a less cropped state.
Appreciate any feedback or thoughts.

I love movie restorations, but a lot of them are just plain terrible. Glad to see a community dedicated to preserving the originals as they were intended.

Hello everyone,
I'm a passionate film enthusiast, yet I wasn't of aware of the size of the fan restoration community.
Given the technology available today and the remarkable talent of some people, I’m not sure why this surprised me.
In any case, I'm truly in awe of the immense dedication and effort that must have gone into these projects, and I’m very much looking forward to experiencing and appreciating the results.

Greetings from Canada, I'm here because I love how fan made films and love seeing deleted scenes and alternate endings.
Please contact me if you have anything for The Godfather 1 and 2. I love that movie a lot and even though I have the 4K box set book. I would love to see what you've done with the film and all the scenes you put together.
