[Cancelled] Mad Max 2/Road Warrior Regrade (Warner 97 DVD and LD)
Don't forget to take in account aspect ratio, when you eventually remove both side borders!

For mkv I use WDTV set at 95%, at 90% I see black bars so it's not 1/1, at 100% there's some overcropping going on.

You can set most modern HDTVs to overscan if you want but there should be an option to do pixel perfect, actual fit or whatever the brand call it.

Nope my TV is too old. It works perfect so I await for 3D without glasses to buy a new one. Or wait until it craps out to buy a 4K one.

Whichever works. I get a tiny bit of overscan on the sides of my hdcrt because I can't afford one of the crazy/amazing ISF professional calibrations.

Still rocking the CRT cap'n? One of the Sony Wegas? It is funny I was at some relatives recently and they had a CRT in one of the bedrooms and for all its faults, I found myself missing the CRT look.

SED TVs were touted to offer CRT performance with flatscreen proportions but they never made it to the marketplace.

Shame they never got them working to a production level. Problem is that LCD is just a mature tech and is easy and cheap to produce. Anything new is at a disadvantage. That and the lawsuits stopped sed in its tracks.

LCDs even at their best have a certain look that is basically the opposite of CRTs. No black level, brighter, sharper but digital looking.

Plasmas were great too. I miss those also. Much closer to CRTs since they used phosphors. Having said all that I do love the look of OLEDs. Can't beat those black levels.

I agree completely.

I have the super fine pitch xbr960 and recently found a used 36xs955. Now they sit side by side and I know 100% that I have major issues. Wink
They're not perfect and I have been tempted to find one of the old flagship Pioneer or Panasonic plasmas until OLED becomes far more affordable.
That being said the 960 still blows me away. Only downsides are calibration, phosphor trailing, and the nondefeatable DRC scaler Sony created. But all LD is amazing on straight composite, and DVD/BD is unbelievably filmlike at times despite the weird 1440x1080i res.
But they sure as heck do black..I mean pure black..black so pure that if nothing is displayed you don't even realize the TV is switched on.
