[Cancelled] Mad Max 2/Road Warrior Regrade (Warner 97 DVD and LD)
(2018-02-24, 04:28 PM)PDB Wrote: I'd really like to preserve the Road Warrior title since it seems destined to the dustbin of history. Yes I know the movie is really Mad Max 2 but to many it's still the Road Warrior and I'd like that not to be lost.

Having said that, it is MM2 so tentatively I think I'll include the video segment containing the MM2 titles and maybe instruction how re-combine the movie in mkvmerge. Sadly, as Jonno said the other way just isn't achievable.

Yes, please do. As an Australian, the option of having the MM2 title is paramount and every bit as important as having the colour of our iron oxide-rich dirt depicted accurately...

But seriously, MAD MAX was a huge hit down here. A cultural sensation. And MAD MAX 2 was a very big deal, indeed. The Australian population wasn't looking forward to seeing 'THE ROAD WARRIOR', did not flock to 'THE ROAD WARRIOR' when it was released and did not celebrate the success of 'THE ROAD WARRIOR'. That others later discovered it and loved it under the alternate title is nice but to us if they use that title then, at worst, they're talking about a movie we've never heard of and, at best, they're just... naive tourists.

For the past 20 years we've had to suffer a DVD release in trimmed form with that title card and then the initial blu ray carrying it on the packaging with nary a mention of "Mad Max" (later releases inserted a tiny "Mad Max 2" above "The Road Warrior" on the slick). Is it too much to ask that Warner Bros consider the very culture that produced this film when marketing it to that culture? It's a small but significant sentiment of respect that is too easily and too often dismissed by others in favour of their own sentimentality.

Anyway, I'm sure you all get the point.

Lovin your work, PDB. Get this project done (and give us the option of the MM2 title card) and I'll officially make you an honorary Dinky Di Aussie Wink

@captainsolo: Well I guess I should never say never since I thought we would never have this "longer" cut, that we have on BD.

@zoidberg: Thanks Zoidberg

@Stamper: I'll definitely look at anything you come up with Stamper. I do have the timing down pretty well on the RW titles

@jonno: Yep, I'll try my best

@PaulKersey: No way that would even remotely work, the regrade has over 3000 settings alone and you would need to do a bunch of conversions

@The Griff: I will include both but need to figure out how to make it feasible for people to re-construct their preferred version. Doesn't matter at the moment since I need to finish the movie itself, so that can come later. But I am keenly aware of preserving the original title of MM2. No worries because I want that honorary title Wink

So stupid question that I have to ask our Aussie friends here: what logos did Mad Max 2 start with?

I know since Warners had the international rights, that meant the logo for the time, the Saul Bass/worm logo, got popped on the front. So what did MM2 play within it's native lands?

iMDB says Warner had theatrical distribution in Australia. I'm no Aussie but I'd guess it was black on red Bass logo.

Thanks Plissken. I wasn't sure if Warner bought only the international rights or Australia also.

Warner definitely handled distribution in Australia.

Thanks Griff, now I know that the Saul Bass/Worm logo was always there. I just don't understand why Warner removed it since it is specifically formatted to work perfectly with the MM1 recap.

Just to sort of chip on on the Logo conundrum and having to figure out how to have a choice.

always when I think about doing something like this I would just go with the original title and be done with it. Besides being less work It's better to be forthright and just go for a single vision of what something should be for your project.

So if you are going for the Saul Bass Logo (you can find a widescreen version on Enter the Dragon... Bluray I think added back but not 100% sure as I only have the DVD and it's on there) I would say just go with "The Road Warrior" and then be done with it.

But it's up to you of course if you think it's worth an alternative. I don't download massive blu-ray files so I have no investment in the release because I will pass up on massive file that I don't have space for. But just telling you how I always see it when you end up in the one or the other conundrum.

But yeah it looks good what you have done.
