[proposal] Robocop - Theatrical Cut

Was gonna bring up that post from blu-ray.com but Stamper beat me too it. I haven’t had a chance to look at my disc yet but I’m hoping to over the weekend. Additionally here are some grabs that were posted (not by me) on blu-ray.com comparing the TC on the new BD to the TC on the 2007 DVD. Judging from the framing they look like they’re likely from the same source though obviously the color grading is different and after all we are comparing a DVD to a BD.

Yeah, the new BD is on capsaholic.  Arrow just sourced the same restoration that MGM used for the Remastered BD and, it seems, took the alternate TC material from an old master.

Regarding the TV cut, it has strobing due to the source master.

There is an open matte version on the russian site that is russian audio only, but no strobing.

I wonder if it could be patched to the TV cut, to eliminate most of the strobing.

So was there a Directors cut re-created in HD before the 4K scan ?

Yes they did it in early 2000 for the DVD re-releases, so that makes 3 different variations of the DC.

So what is the best audio for either cut? I'd include LD, DVD and BD mixes. From there we can make the best remuxes

Speaking of audio mixes I’m considering capturing the audio for the TC from the HBO version available on OnDemand. Anyone interested in that????

I have no idea with the 'Theatrical' Cut, hopefully the 2.0 on the arrow is it? but i imagine a LD will exist that has not been filtered as much.

I think the 'criterion' mix on the LD would be the 'purest' mix of The Directors Cut.
Is this Mono (I dont have my DVD handy)?
It was recreated when MGM put a new master together (for the 2000 DVD release it looks like) and mixed into 5.1. I believe this is the same mix available on all releases since including the Arrow disc.

I think the options on the Arrow are the best bet, the 2.0 (It is Stereo and not Mono), 4.0 and the 5.1 mixes are all available and are different from each other as mentioned in the comments earlier, suggesting there all pretty much faithful (if not the actual original) mixes.

My money's on the LD PCM for the TC, which is my preferred cut. Fans of the DC might find that a hybrid track based largely on the LD PCM from the TC turns out to be the best option.

Oh yes, I never got that release. I went straight from Criterion DVD to MGM (4k) Bluray.
I grabbed the Sony BD later which I gather it the 2000 master?
