Looking for the "right" Terminator 2 color grading...
#71
Well, just finished to upload the video here; top JP LD match, bottom PDB's regrade: https://vimeo.com/198898921 - the JP LD regrade is very good, but still not perfect; I have reached a good overall result, but sadly few artefacts are still present here and there (some so small that are not easily noticeable, but I know they are there...) - I could replace eventually the affected shots using a more secure script, but not so good at color matching.

Of course, a better capture and the original source, not yet regraded nor compressed, would almost surely lead to a better result.

Yes, Miami Vice is a notable example. I've seen comparisons of VHS off-air recordings with the DVDs, there are night shots that are completely missing that Cameron/Mann blue chemical timing.

Watching the vimeo comparison, it's obvious PDB has a blanket blue over the whole image. (watch the flash when the kid gets carbonised by the white light of the nuclear explosion) This can't be good, the film should be blue in blue scenes, but daylight scenes were never baked in blanket blue.

Well yeah of course did you read any of my postings Stamper?

I still disagree with you about many things about T2

Where you able to download the Side B sample ? It is just some minutes from the Hospital scene.

I really like the sound, even if it is just mono, it sounds quite powerful.

I had a quick listen today, it's beefy! I haven't done an A/B comparison but it's definitely got some guts.
This squeeze laserdisc definitely deserves a preservation. Are you able to upload a sample of the PCM track?

I only can capture up to steteo. So only the analog mono can be captured by me from this version.
That's why I will send the disc to spoRv, to capture all three audio tracks.

It's OK to disagree, that's what forums are for Wink

Mhm... Would it be possible that different countries got different color grading in cinema? If the local distributor has to do its own print with its localized dub, what if something with the print, like colors done wrong?

@Stamper: I agree to disagree, sometimes! Wink

@MrBrown: that's a possibility, but let's wait for an answer from our experts.

Does the squeeze LD have cigarette burns/reel change cues? If not then it is most likely an IP/IN telecine. The fact that the picture and the audio are said to be different from all other releases seems to suggest something 'slipped' out, we will know more once the LD is captured.
