[Cancelled] Mad Max 2/Road Warrior Regrade (Warner 97 DVD and LD)
This film shouldn't have a widescreen Warner logo - the logo, titles and opening montage are deliberately restricted to academy radio, which (on a decent sized screen) creates a big impact when the initial chase scene opens out to scope. PDB has this well in hand.

At to the title, 'The Road Warrior' is only appropriate if the aim is to recreate a US release copy/master/print. In pretty much every other significant territory - domestic Australia, Europe and Japan (where the film opened big) it was called Mad Max 2.

Just a distribution footnote - mainland European releases were handled by Warner-Columbia, and according to the BBFC, UK distribution was funded by the three-way conglomerate of Columbia-Emi-Warner. I doubt this would have impacted the logos on the prints, mind.

Ah sorry, when I saw the stretched out logo overlay on the image posted I thought it was to make the Saul Bass logo widescreen...

Then in that case I would just go with MAD MAX 2.

I have not seen the film in a long time though... Great film!

Yeah there is a prologue part in a square if I remember right...sorry about that.

Indeed, the impact of this transition on a large screen is profound. It just blasts you in the face!

Anxious as always to see what PDB comes up with, because, as history has shown, it will be awesome.

It's such a great opening, no matter how many times you see it it works every time. I think going from mono to stereo audio at the same time somehow amplifies the effect.

To add absolutely nothing to the title discussion:

I prefer "The Road Warrior" because I personally hated MM1 and so the US title allows this great movie to stand as its own thing. Big Grin

Absolutely. It rivals the mono to full stereo opening of Superman only found on the LD release. I'd love to one day see this moment theatrically.

To each their own I suppose. I prefer RW as it has a more epic feel and is a great title-plus I saw it that way first. However, I think MM1 is a masterpiece and easily the best of the series despite being drive-in circuit ready with exploitation elements. I can't understand why Miller is so convinced that great Westerns have little story and that story is not important...uhhh what great Westerns are short on story? None!

See that? You've got your fancy Star Wars. Stop tryin' to take ours, too!

MAD MAX 2 or GTFO!

Ahem.

In other news, the opening of MM2 is one of the reasons I had to go with a scope projection screen. Seeing that image explode into full width on my 150" screen, while the audio roars into life, is almost enough to embarrass my trousers.
