[Cancelled] Mad Max 2/Road Warrior Regrade (Warner 97 DVD and LD)
If the 2.0 stereo is genuine we might finally have a Warner catalogue title on UHD that doesn't need "fixing".

Road Warrior is looking so promising. If it had the LD pcm too we’d be perfect but I guess it’ll be the dvd 2.0 ac3 at best.

If we can get our hands on the Jap LD, then we could sync this without problems. AFAIK it's the uncut version, same as BD and 4K Smile

As long as its not a downmix like so many WB titles

Well, here's the deal - short version is, great picture but disappointing sound (though that's not the end of the world).

The UHDs for Mad Max 2 and Beyond Thunderdome have gorgeous detail and colour and - get this - they both include the original WB logos. That means that MM2 opens with the Saul Bass logo (and Mad Max 2 title) in 1.33:1 as originally designed. Beautiful.

The sound is another story. All the mixes seem to be the same revised versions, just in different formats. I didn't get past the opening credits, which have the titles appearing accompanied by exaggerated clunks and clanks (presumably to create some sort of aural consistency with Fury Road). Not a fan.

Fortunately, the pictures seem to be a good frame sync with the BDs, meaning the existing LD syncs are good to go (after a bit of a trim). So all the material is at hand to create some quite stunning - and pleasingly authentic - versions of these two films.

At last.

Haven't seen it myself but happy to hear about the Saul Bass logo being back, thanks Jonno.

Were the wonky credits for Thunderdome fixed also?

Was Road Warrior ever released in HD?
I'd like to get the original Road Warrior title animation in HD Smile

Also @PDB any chance to release the synced LD audio in 44.1kHz?

Glad to hear about Thunderdome. I'm hoping the terrible blow out is fixed also.

Mad Max 2 was released on BD along with Thunderdome. Road Warrior only appears in HD on HBOmax, which is just a cut down of the MM2 BD transfer with the RW title added in the wrong aspect ratio. I still have the upscale of the RW credits I did.

Jonno did the original MM2 LD sync. Sounds like from his analysis that sync can be adapted to this. I can do it, if Jonno doesn't. I'll also dig up my Thunderdome sync....

I took a first look at MM2 and indeed, it appears to me the 2.0 track is just a weird downmix. You can hear it in the transition from the mono opening to the stereo chase right away. It's botched on all the english tracks. When Wez gets the Arrow in the arm, he screams as he rides away on the border of the road, and that scream is silent in the 2.0, where I remember it good in the LD 2.0.

Also the foley sounds way high in the mix on the 2.0. I browsed the Blu board and the release is getting slammed, as people have noticed that all the english tracks are just different re-iterations of the Dolby Atmos remix with new foley to mimic Mad Max Fury Road sound. It looks like we have a The Terminator remix applied to MM2!

I assume we need to calculate the delay for the BR 5.1 (which is not here so it's gone too).

The image saves it, finally, the PQ kills every version out there, and the correct timing is finally on, save for a few shots at night that were blue.

As someone noted on another board, this guy scream is also missing in the remix:

According to a Blu user, the delay to remux the 5.1 track of the Blu-ray (which has the voices intact despite being a remix) is -1001 ms.
