Looking for "The Terminator" (1984) theatrical color grading [FOUND]
Yes, we've been saying it for years. The people who complain are people who grew up on the badly done DVDs of the films.

Interesting. Thanks for the info guys.

Again this boils down to the inherent difference between photochemical and digital timing.
How was the print in other regards? The print I viewed (twice) was very saturated and had a lot of warmth, especially the skin tones.

I agree that the differences of digital timing must be the reason that the color biases can look strange to some. And 8-bit color space certainly makes it more difficult to differentiate similar green/teal/blue tones.

I'm now of the opinion that the old German DVD is actually the most accurate video release we've seen, despite a few oddities. Especially after looking back at the google drive folder that was posted in this thread a while back with photos of print frames, and comparing the different versions.
Finest kind.

These look like obvious fakes to me.

According to imdb the movie had mono sound: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088247/tec...tt_ql_dt_6

These cells have stereo sound.

A guy who once had a Terminator print told me they were open matte, while these are matted at 16:9. And not only are they matted, they are matted absolutely perfectly and all identically, and everything about the "photos" looks pristine and digital, and there are no visible sprocket holes, etc.

Also, what's up with the bright blue around the soundtrack?

Soundtracks come in different colors/chemical compositions. I don't know all the details, but some of the newer ones are cyan I believe. Actually that's just another indication that this is a fake, I don't think they used Cyan tracks before this century, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, I don't think I've ever seen an older film strip with a cyan soundtrack. I figured it must be a more modern thing.
