[Canceled] 2001 Regrade (Criterion Laserdisc)
#11
My vote is to grade to the first issue DVD.

Edit: I can rip mine for you if you'd like. I was planning to sync the 5.1 audio since it's not a remix.

I have synced the criterion laserdisc to the blu-ray release. It's been posted for awhile on the spleen. Might make life easier for somebody attempting to regrade.

The aspect ratio is a bit off on it though. This was before Chewtobacca kindly sent me to the school of aspect ratio calculation Smile. I have a new 480p anamorphic version that I've encoded but not uploaded yet that is at the correct AR.

Were there LD's and DVD's released near the same time (or definitely from the same master) that came out identically colored, or not?

I'm going to remove the "pink" look of some of that like I'm doing with the Evil Dead.

The MGM DVD? I've got a copy but thanks for the offer. Appreciate it. At bare minimum I need the alternative soundtrack that it has.

Oh, I'm definitely going to use that as a resource since your capture (averaging several caps) is almost certainly better then mine. Thanks, althor!

* ... film strips were bundled only with Taschen's Stanley Kubrick Archives book (also a limited edition).

Unfortunately, no help from this idea. I searched/found only a couple pictures of the included filmstrips and they both have the distinctive red-fade look -- probably why it was no big deal for them to cut it up for the book.

I agree that the MGM DVD release starts off the best. Spaced Ranger (at OT) cc'ed one of the other releases (probably because the colors would change anyway). When mistreated at OT, he left with his images, but The Internet remembers! Well ... somewhat.  Smile   All I could find was this one (not the full picture, but of a color window) and it always was my favorite correction. Unfortunately, only the thumbnail survived, but you'll get the idea:

It looked brighter, stronger contrasted, more saturated, and without the Warner blue-tint.

Is there a rip of the MGM DVD in this part of the woods? I'm looking for it because according to a post on the Blu forum, "For the curious if you have any version prior to the Warner DVD reissues you can find the original mix. Easiest to find is the old MGM DVD which is a port of their last and very hard to find LD which was the first release to have a 5.1 rendering."

Wow cool, I assume the one LD rip on the spleen is the same or different? It says only stereo. (it's the CC version) The new 4K is coming so it's time to round up the correct soundmixes for that one. The MGM DVD also seems to have a unique french mix so I'm interested Wink

Since there's a UHD version of 2001 coming out, will you be regrading that? Presumably it's a new master, I don't know for sure.

I can offer a 1080i HTDV cap if it is of any use here.
It does have the old MGM logo at the beginning.
Audio tracks are german 5.1 and 2.0, english 2.0.
