The Warriors Theatrical Cut German Mediabook
#91
Here are the specs for both discs as found online. The German is a BD25. Also I notice the AU have 24 bits audio.
The running time seems to indicate it's the same sync.

EDIT: I synced the NTSC DVD mono which was synced to the DE, provided by Turisu, to the AU and it looks like they share the same sync.
The folded down stereo sounds indeed different from the mono, as the music is much more at the front when folded down.
I'm beginning to wonder if the Stereo mix is not a later remix for re-releases. Probably the same thing as Mad Max, which had re-releases down the line a few years after the original, with doctored sound mixes. As stereo was becoming common in the early 80's, that would figure that they went back to the stems to produce a stereo track. I know The Warriors was censored originaly in France, but came out again in 1983 fully uncut, it might be when remixes were made.

EDIT 2: Listening to the mono from the DVD, I can hear very clear out of phase sounds. The same moments are clear on the VHS rip provided by Alleycat, so one might make this sync put on the priority list.

I assume from what you are saying the VHS supplied by Alleycat is better than the other tracks and should be the default track, am I correct.

Until caps are done we won't know which is better on the video front, I don't fully trust Imprint to properly encode this as they usually just press auto and let the bits be wasted on scenes where it is not needed rather than have someone manually going through and checking where they are really needed, I trust the De 84' Entertainment more with this sort of thing, although there are a few German companies that are just as bad as Imprint, I hope I am wrong. You've seen both Stamper, although not side by side, did anything stick out as bad on the AU.

This is Audrey Rose scan, even higher bitrate and its completely dire with compression artifacts:

Disc Size: 48,822,945,947 bytes
Protection: AACS
Playlist: 00002.MPLS
Size: 35,679,227,904 bytes
Length: 1:53:24.005
Total Bitrate: 41.95 Mbps
Video: MPEG-4 AVC Video / 33042 kbps / 1080p / 23.976 fps / 16:9 / High Profile 4.1
Audio: English / LPCM Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 2304 kbps / 24-bit
Audio: English / LPCM Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 2304 kbps / 24-bit
Audio: English / LPCM Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 2304 kbps / 24-bit
Subtitle: English / 24.336 kbps

I quote from a third party:

"USA video superior to https://slow.pics/c/NwieuY0G. Although the Color space is more accurate on the Imprint, the artifacts on the AUS are horrifying."

Color space issue is due to wrong Gamma been used on USA, which I fixed myself but encode itself is much superior.

I just did a capture, but failed to get the exact same spot. What I can tell you is that the AU has grain, and the DE is degrained, from what I spotted. I don't think there's any competition there, the AU encode is much better. I need to find a solution where I can capture frame by frame but VLC does not allows that.

PS what is the Audrey Rose? Early rebuild of the TC?

Audrey Rose is an entirely different movie but released by Imprint.

The presence of grain is very good news, sounds similar to Zoidberg's Film Four custom.

Premiere will allow exact frame grabs, MPC-Be (madvr + lav) can get very close if not exact using Ctrl+← and Ctrl+→ and most probably more accurate to source

Edit: I will grab a little of Au and have a look. You have peaked my interest with the grain.

Here's a quick comparison:

https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/24700

Au appears to be slightly cropped and darker than De (in this shot).

Edit: will add another in a min

Edit 2: here you go:

https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/24701

Not sure which I prefer (outside of cropping which De takes the win) and is the grain on Au actually grain and not just typical Paramount added EE/sharpening (possible signs of halos around faces etc).

Edit 3: and another:

If the VHS mono is superior to the DVD I'd be happy to take a crack at syncing it.

That would be awesome Turisu. I suppose the cropping is due to respecting the 1.85:1 format? It looks like there's too much edge making for not so clean framing on the DE. The AU appears sharper probably due to no DNR used.

In regards to respecting the 1:85:1, that is not the case as if they wanted to do that, they should of just added black bars instead of just zooming it in, its still 1.77:1 but cropped on all sides. As they are both in sync, I guess we can all pick our poison for the video and just add the synced audio's as desired. I will also check both zoidberg's Film4 custom and AMZN and see if they are cropped and how they look.

Edit: Zoidberg (Film4 UK uncropped) vs Au:

Film4 has a green tinge to color timing and compression issues zoomed in

https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/24705

Edit 2: Sky UK (uncropped) vs Au:

Sky UK looks de-grained due to compression

https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/24706

Will post Amzn later as not ready to hand at moment.

It's weird the zoomed in versions are all more detailed.

Which other one is zoomed in, I think its only AU as Imprint decided to do that.
