Highlander 2 - 35mm Scan
#11
I am absolutely interested in this, and would be willing to donate $20 USD. I would also love to spread the word of this project. I hope everything works out, I shall await further updates.

Thanks! And please feel free to spread the word if you know people who might be interested.

Great project. I'll contribute and I'll also happily make blu ray menus for all three versions once they are done if anyone is interested in that. We could port over all the extras from the DVD and Blu Ray releases and make covers. Shame there was never a commentary track.

Will it be the 1996 Renegade cut or the 2004 Renegade Cut? Also could this be used to restore the Special Zeist Edition Fan Edit from a few years back?

Thanks for the support. Any 35mm print we'd get would either be the US Theatrical Cut or the European Theatrical Cut. The EU cut would be the most desirable as it contains about 10 minutes of extra footage over the US cut and would give us nearly all of the footage for restoring the Renegade Version too.

The director and producers recorded a commentary for the Renegade laserdisc and first DVD, it's well worth a listen if you get the chance.

I'm hoping to learn how to set up menus and stuff once my current project is ready, so happy to learn from you Smile

Roughly how much would you be willing to donate to the project? Just so I can keep a rough estimate of potential funds. Don't worry, I'm not asking for money just now and you can change your mind later and I won't hold you to it : ) Also you can PM me if you'd rather not discuss it in public.

Btw, how did you get on with the Bad Lieutenant PCM?

Ah I was scanning through DVD Rewind but I missed the commentary on that R1 Disc. I'd be willing to donate £30 if that helps?

Haven't managed to get around to Bad Lieutenant yet, just need to pick up the regular blu ray and then sync the audio. Hopefully I can get the rest of the Criterion projects done soon and then move onto this one. At the moment for every project I actually get done I come up with ideas for 10 more! Cheers

Thanks! Every £/$ counts for this project so that certainly helps Smile

I know in the past the BBC was pretty draconian about requisitioning prints, but I think they're more understanding and compromising these days. Certainly with audio recordings I know they borrow the tapes, create high quality transfers then return them to the owners along with the transfers. I've heard they do the same with visual sources now too but I can't confirm that. No idea what third parties like TIEA do.

No they're not unfortunately. Master copies are not the same as recordings, check out this page where BBC Doctor Who archivist Paul Vanezis said “There is absolutely no question that there are missing Doctor Who films out there with private film collectors,” and “I know some of these collectors, and at some point they may be interested in handing over their films. But they’re not the kind of people that you should be pressuring to hand things over.” He added: “There’s been a lot of criticism of film collectors by people who should really know better. Without them, these things would have been lost or destroyed years and years ago and the fact that they have survived and survived in good condition is because people have cared for them. We might not like it because we can’t see them but it’s not really for us to criticise them for preserving this material. one day we will get to see them.”

Vanezis said he's only talking about one or two episodes that he knows about in private hands.

Thanks! The project isn't guaranteed yet, but that pledge certainly makes it more likely Smile

I can't believe that I forgot about this until now. Did you know that in early pre-production "Highlander 2" was known as "Highlander 2020"? A few years back a pre-production poster with the 2020 title even appeared on eBay.

So enjoy the unofficial year of Highlander 2!
