So in terms of the extended versions, which is considered the best release to get? Has anyone tried taking the blus and regrading them to remove the green tint?

The LOTR UHD BDs are upscales from the 2k masters plus extra DNR, a ton of sharpening, and a regrade in HDR. Don't waste your money.

Sorry, but it's not that one-sided. Where the UHD looks fine, it does look fine (even upscaled 2K can and should look great in 4K). But yeah, it's far from being an ultimate release. So I would say grab them when it's twice as cheaper and make up your own mind

The situation's one-sided as far as I'm concerned. This is the best review so far in terms of providing details about the damage that has been done.

It really isn't as straight-forward as that. I much prefer the new colour grade and enjoy the HDR. The DNR is no worse than on the theatrical BDs. Perhaps if you're into the EEs then it's a tougher choice but the theatrical UHDs are well worth the upgrade.

My go-to versions are:
FOTR: the good HDTV cap (no green tint) TTT & ROTK: EE BDs (region A, for the hard subtitles) This leaves me with the TC for FOTR and the EEs for the other two, but given that this is the only way to have good HD versions, I'm prepared to shrug my shoulders when it comes to which cut to watch. (The TC BDs were undeniably a train wreck.) The HDR regrade is hit and miss. Thanks given by: pipefan413 , alleycat

Again, this is a bit one-sided. I think FOTR's theatrical version in 4K is a deffinite improvement over the blu ray. I also prefer the colors of the extended cut on the UHD. Also, concerning additional DNR and EE, the first film was the least affected. I am still going through TTT and ROTK, so I can't say which one I prefer - just yet. One thing for sure - beginning of TTT is just horribly DNR'd, infortunately...
