That was my first thought that the surprises were changes or additions to The Abyss but you could also read it as the SE's additional scenes being a surprise to those who have never seen them. Not sure which is right we will see in Dec. The only pic I noticed from the SE in the trailer was the wave shot, which looks like the original effect but stabilized and cleaned-up.

What no dvdmike, feel free to participate. Just because someone disagree with your stance is not reason to not keep getting involved!

What also troubles me is for Avatar 1, they announced the collector's box will include 3 versions of the film... but there are 4 because of the 2022 release. Which will be missing or altered? It also seems like the Collector's edition won't include the 3D version, but they ARE releasing a remastered (ugh again) 3D disc... that is probably still the theatrical cut even though the 170min Special Edition was in theaters in 3D. I'm expecting a garbage pile of discs I'm afraid.

I figured the surprises referred to the Special Edition and the quite significant changes to the story arc with the wave etc.
This new remaster was screened at a festival recently with JC in attendance, as far as I can tell there were no changes spotted, plenty of comments on the grain management however. Thanks given by: PDB

It's obvious the original 2009 release will not exist anymore except on the old discs.
The Avatar TC is now the 2022 release with the added scene. So the 3D release will be the 2022 TC cut. For the 3 cuts 2D 4K release, obviously also, this will follow the recent 2D 4K TC cut release. They just duplicated what they did with the original Blu discs, only this time, the TC is the 2022 one instead of the 2009 version. |
