There was a theory a while back that the o-neg went up in the backlot fire so all that's left are protection elements, whether that's true or not is anybody's guess.
I agree the 3D is fine for what it is, judging on normal displays doesn't really do it justice. Isn't theatrical 3D graded at something like 3 foot lamberts? I also think it's a true left eye/right eye conversion where both eyes are manipulated (vs a conversion which generates only the right eye), which would make viewing the left eye only look distorted.
I need to look again into muxing 3D MVC, as JP and T2 3D would be improved by having the original mixes

OK so you're not a fan of the 3D, please tell us more about the 2D DCP, i.e. is it the same master as the UHD blu ray?

Nope, the colour is closer to the 35mm scans we have seen but dialed back, the old dcp was the BD pink looking master.
This had grain and looks great, the audio sounds like the remix however

I have a feeling we are always going to be stuck with the remix. It's been with us ever since the original BD release. Now the 3D re-release had a mix that is ever so slightly different (and done by Gary Rydstrom) that isn't original but it's certainly not bad. It's unfortunate the DCP got stuck with the remix. For home, I almost don't even care anymore because the original mix is pretty easy to find for us nerds.

Surely the DCP has a far-field mix though, generally Rydstrom's theatrical mixes are way better than his near-field mixes.
It's possible the DCP master may get a home release but I guess Spielberg would have to sign off on it, he may well prefer the current UHD master for 'home' viewing (hence its almost slavish devotion to the blu ray master).
Mike, to which 35mm scans are you referring? I thought the only one in the wild was the TN1/Poita scan from years ago
