[No LongerAvailable]The Good,The Bad and The Ugly International Cut/US Theatrical Cut
#31
Ah, that's right! You start to get confused after while with all these various different copies. Of course you yourself have an extreme amount to sift through. Wink I think what always confused me was a near identical bit of damage present on both LDs-this could be either that the IP had the same damage that was later on prints or that they used a section of the older master, which is weirdly something MGM used to do in the era.
(The identical markings helped me to identify the Criterion and MGM Dr. No as one and the same.)

Maybe the DVD is missing the shot because they crammed the long feature plus the deleted scenes onto a single DVD way early in the format and somehow either missed the shot or had to snip a tiny bit of something for space?

Ok I got a test file is done. I haven't watched it on a TV screen yet but I skimmed around and it seems to look good. The patched parts look as consistent in color and grain as can be done for a "quick" project. The audio seems to be as in sync as much as a spaghetti western can be.

Assuming it uploads ok and if you can download a 21GB file and want to test it, please drop me a PM.

I watched about 1/3 of the movie last night and it looks really good. Audio is in sync and the patched sections blend in well.

I'll watch the rest in the next few days but so far excellent job!

So I watched this in full last night.....audio sounded good and audio was in perfect sync as far as I could tell. Color was great and it all seemed to blend together very well. Overall it was a good watch and I could not spot any glitches or faults with it. Great Job PDB! When released make sure to share at Blu : )

This project is great. Excellent work. All seems well on my end.
I know you ruled out using the new bluray for the US shots because the colors are so utterly screwed up. Someone on OT.com managed to use that color matching script to create a grade for the new bluray and it actually turned out surprisingly good:

If you ever come back to this project it might be worth trying out. The DNR'ed footage with grain added mostly works well for the quick shots, but unfortunately there is a lot of smearing on the final shot.

Thanks iguanaclerk. Glad you liked it.

I tried to use as little of the EE as possible, limiting it to certain shots. I originally had used the 4K for all the replacement shots but had to abandon it when I realized even with the colors corrected, the black levels (ie black crush) is way different in the 4K over the Mondo, EE, 98 DVD and 93 LD. So I had to reduce shots that simply would not work. That ended up being a few shots from the torture sequence, the sorry Tuco and for The End shot, the rest being from the 4K. The End shot being the longest pull from the EE. I really didn't want to use the EE for that but the 4K just didn't grade to anything close to the Mondo, even with Dre's program.

Also since there is an optical in the shot, its a bit wonky/dupe-y looking like the character title cards.

STENDEC did a similar thing that I did. I regraded the entire 4K opening to 1998 DVD's colors and while it looked accurate, the black level and gamma are a mess. Unfortunately, that is also there in his regrade and the movie gets more difficult to grade as it goes on.

For anyone who wants a copy its up at BT now.

Ah, that makes sense. That's why most of the the English inserts looked much better than I would have expected. Both US blurays are a mess. The coloring on the 4k is just absurd. This is a great edit.
