Sorry I haven't responded sooner but I have had some family stuff going on that has consumed most of my time the last few days.
I finally got a chance to re-watch the last 1080p encode, discovered a few more minor issues with audio transitions and a few more scenes that need a grain level adjustment, and have finally started editing everything.
One of the first things I noticed when working on the intro, is the timing of the "WE" and "WE ARE" was off compared to the timing of "DEAD" and "WALKING DEAD" showing up on-screen. What I mean by this is that the "DEAD" part is on-screen for 8 frames (plus one of a fade-in) before "WALKING" appears on-screen, but I only had 9 frames for "WE" and "WE ARE" before "DEAD" shows up on screen, which basically means less than half (especially including the one frame fade-in) of frames available to work with. In essence, this means that the "custom" parts there are "playing at double-speed" compared to the original. So I re-worked that entire sequence so the timing of it all is the same. Now the "WE" "WE ARE" "WE ARE DEAD" "WE ARE WALKING DEAD" is all 8 frames (plus one fade-in) EACH. This also means that "THE" had to be moved to a later frame than is in the original by 6 frames total. Now the entire sequence "flows" smoother as the timing of it all is the same and, interestingly, it matches the intro theme a lot better. Hope this explanation isn't too confusing, LOL
Anyway, since I am a few days behind on this project now (as, originally, I would have already had the entire film rendered in 1080p) I hope you don't mind waiting a couple of days (the time it will take for me to finish the last edits + the encoding time) before you get a chance to see the intro sequence, but I really don't want to delay this any more
When watching the last 1080p encode, there were a couple more issues I noticed that I feel need to be mentioned:
-First, in the scene where Rick and Glen first get into the truck, Rick looks behind him when reversing the truck which is a technical "goof" and has been pointed out in numerous TWD forums, as well as IMDB (under "goofs" section.) Unless the back of the truck was open (which it isn't until Rick pulls up to the building) he would have been looking at... well, that's the problem... The back of the truck is closed, so he wouldn't be able to see what's behind him by looking that way, instead, he should have been looking into the rear-view mirrors. So, to fix this, I will be cutting that 2-second shot out and, hopefully, this will not cause audio issues
-Second, (and third) is during the explosion scene at the CDC. This is just an "honorable" mention, as I don't think I will be able to fix this easily. These I will "explain" with the use of screenshots...
In the following frame, we see the window, where Rick threw the grenade, exploding:
In the following frame, we see chunks of broken glass on the bottom:
In the following frame, when Dale and Andrea are jumping out the same window, we still see that broken glass on bottom:
In the following frame, when we see the "fire ball" in the same window, the broken pieces of glass "magically" disappear (and we know it's the same window because of the building reflecting to the left of screen):
In the following frame, we see all the windows break and the "fire ball" getting bigger:
In the following frame, which is the first one after we see the "fire ball" of the previous screenshot, we do NOT see a "fire ball" to the left, which we just saw in the previous shot and that makes no sense since fire is naturally drawn towards oxygen (i.e. the already broken window; where I'm not implying that the window on-screen wouldn't have exploded too, just that the position of the "fire ball" makes no sense):
In the following frame, we see the bush in the background (same one as the bush in the shot of Dale and Andrea jumping out of the broken window) so we know that it's not a "goof" of them showing the same window, but a goof of
directionality of the "fire ball:"
The ONLY way that this could be fixed, is if the visual effect of that "fire ball" was re-done to show the "fire ball" coming from the left side of screen (where the already broken window is and where we just saw the first explosion) The issue with the broken glass "magically" disappearing could probably be fixed easier by layering in the broken glass from the earlier shot. But here's where my question comes: Is it really that important? I have searched numerous TWD forums and have only found one other person that has ever noticed this.
There is another continuity problem in the show that can NOT be fixed, but I think also deserves an "honorable" mention and has been pointed out on numerous TWD forums, as well as the "goofs" section on IMDB. Here, I'm talking about the issue of Rick's bandages. LOL. Ok, so in the beginning of the movie we CLEARLY see Rick get shot in the upper back, with the exit wound ABOVE his heart (we even see Shane applying pressure to the wound) BUT in EVERY shot of Rick from the hospital and forward, the bandage is clearly BELOW his heart, kind of in his upper-left stomach area.
Anyway, now I'm going back to editing everything but will wait to start the rendering until I hear a response as to whether to try to fix the "broken glass" issue and the "fire ball" directionality issue
