  Hey there !

Hi there, Blud here, worked a bit in CG ingustry and it just cimented my love for practical effect and preservation of cinemas. As things goes, I feel its very important to keep movies as they were, away from hastly upscale and crude grading.

  Aguirre - 4k release?
Posted by: Lio - 2024-12-23, 04:30 PM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - No Replies

There's a new 4K out from Shout. Is the audio any different from the Shout BD or BFI?
Has anyone looked into whether there's a "best" version of the English audio, or are they all about the same?

EDIT: Found a copy of the BFI. There are small EQ differences but they sound practically the same.

Hi all,
I have the (both original and new) BD and the HD-DVD and want to before 2025 watch this again in the best way I can.
Does anyone have a higher quality video source or the cinema DTS.
I will be watching it in a real cinema on a large scope screen

Bad Santa (Baddest Santa Cut) – Extended Unrated Cut
Posted by: Kreeep - 2024-12-18, 04:25 PM - Forum: Released - Replies (2)

Here we have it folks. This is what I believe to be the best way to watch this dark comedy. Most people are familiar with the Unrated cut, which is the theatrical cut with additional footage that was removed from TC for rating purposes most likely. Director, Terry Zwigoff, released his approved Director’s Cut afterward, removing some comedic elements making for a tonally darker film overall, with Willie having less of a redemption arc. However, there is some funny swearing and gags present in DC that is not in unrated. Consider this edit an extended unrated cut of the film more than anything. Some differences between the cuts are listed here:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0307987/alternateversions/

The video transfers for both DC and Unrated differ from one another, including colour, detail, and framing, with the DC having more framing on top and bottom. The Unrated cut is a higher bitrate with more film grain present and better reds in particular. However, it suffers from poorer colour grading in some scenes, as well as blown out highlights. Where possible, I have used the better video of the two, including the additional framing from DC spliced in where necessary. Unrated footage has been regraded to match DC’s superior colours where present also.
Audio is less clipped on DC, so that was primarily used. However, I very much prefer the choices of songs and musical cues in Unrated over DC, so Unrated is used in those cases.
Some shots/takes in both DC and Unrated differ ever so slightly. Whichever cut had better comedic timing took precedence over video quality in this edit. There have been a lot of very small changes with footage spliced between the two cuts that will just take way too long to list. However, a big change I have opted for was to go with DC’s ending, with Thurman cleaning Willie’s blood off the front porch rather than Unrated’s, with Thurman kicking the bully in the balls and riding off on his bike.

  Airplane! (1980) LaserDisc Audio
Posted by: Phineus - 2024-12-17, 10:23 PM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - Replies (3)

Hi,

I am doing a project with Airplane! (1980) and really wanted to use the original mono audio.  All Bluray releases have the same 5.1 track, the NTSC DVD I sourced had the surround track and a stereo track, it seems that LaserDisc is the only physical media with the mono audio.

This led me to this site, where I found an old post https://fanrestore.com/thread-4952.html but there was never a response there.

So I took a gamble and on a whim purchased this: https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/59471/SF0...7/Airplane! in the hope I could find some kind soul to capture the audio for me.

I am new to the community here (very first post!) so I hope this is an acceptable request, I don't need the LD back, I'd just like the audio from it.

Many thanks  Big Grin

"The Terminator" 35mm scan emulation regrade
Posted by: Beber - 2024-12-14, 09:58 AM - Forum: In progress - Replies (23)

Hey, guys.

I've started a regrade of the remastered 1080p Blu-ray emulating the 35mm scan that's been out there for a while, which I like quite a lot and which looks more similar to the T2 cinematography with the blues and purples, whether 1984 accurate or not. I'm at 13'30" for now. There's a couple of shots I need to revisit, but here's how it looks right now:
