Need to add grain to a movie project, seeking ideas/options/tips please |

I had to restore an older movie that was previously wrecked w/ multiple layered bad interlacing choices, tons of jitter, ghosting, terrible resampling, on and on. What's left is a very stable movie, but it looks too sterile, clinical, waxy, lifeless. It was definitely shot on film (35mm?) and I'm seeking to add a wee tiny bit of grain back into it. Any grain that was there is long gone. I have several grain plates I could overlay in Premiere (or Resolve), but I'm open to ideas. The grain technically *should change over time in the running length, and increase in darker scenes and decrease in lighter scenes, right? It should be dynamic. Can you guys please give me some pointers/tips as this will be my 1st time attempting this. I *could go w/ a grain rendering program, but that route seems very artificial and I'd rather overlay some real grain. Please share some ideas, I appreciate your time and help!

[Request] Flashdance (1983) US LD for Stereo Surround |

Anyone has any of the stereo LD tracks for this title? I found previous 5.1 surround on older Blu-rays to be lacking and the new one (found on UHD and new remastered Blu-ray) seems a different 5.1 remix. There's seems to be a digital track for the 1990 one, but also on the 1997 edition, which also contains a 5.1 on the other track (upmix, remix or 6-track?).
Any of these will do, depending on the whishes if someone is willing to share it unsynced, I can sync to UHD and share it here or if the owner prefers it not to, so it will be respected.
In any case, I want to compare it against the 5.1 mixes.

Really surprised that blah-ray never covered this one. I'd love to do a large scale comparison to see what sounds the best (if it's not already been done). Both the 7.1 and 5.1 are slightly different mixes but have lots of noise reduction applied.
I've listened to the blu-ray (3 different tracks) a random PAL dvd (5.1), an HDTV rip (5.1), and a late 80s VHS. The VHS easily sounds the best with much less NR, although my copy is thrashed so I'll have to seek out a replacement if it ends up needing a sync. Here's quick comparison to the 2.0 "original" mix that is included on the blu:

Looks like there are a bunch of LDs to choose from and there's a few other VHS copies I might have to snag. Anyone have any LD/VHS recordings or any input as to what mixes might sound the best?

As some may know, this version was a butchered English export version of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind released in 1985. This version has been seen theatrically in English speaking markets and on home video prior to the 2003 DVDs.
How hard would it be to reconstruct this version using the Nausicaä HD masters, outside of somebuddy obtaining and scanning one of those elusive 35mm prints?
I know it was edited down and all, but were there any added or reanimated scenes? Maybe stuff slowed down or redone optically? I think the only visual changes I saw were the opening credits superimposed into the first scene and new ending credits.

The most egregious audio remixes |

Just wondering what people think are the worst examples of remixes released for films, whether it be due to altered sound effects, musical cues or just noise reduction filtering that reduces noticeable detail. I wouidn't mind compiling a list of the most offensive examples, in order to avoid or source better audio.

Restore missing corners? |

hello!
I've been restoring some Dark Knight footage and as its an open matte + widescreen overlay there are inevitably missing corners. so far the overlap has been enough that i'm happy just cropping out the corners but there's one shot in particular that i'd like to at least explore the possibility of restoring the corners in some capacity.
I've done some research but mostly drew blanks.
There's the ambilight thing which uses the existing image and seems to blur/scale it to attempt to fill the rest of the frame. it does a decent job for empty sky where its all basically the same colour but as soon as some detail enters the corner area it becomes quite noticable imo. i dont think its really meant for any kind of restoration tho (more as just a way to fill a frame without just leaving it black)
I also came across AI in/outpainting. idea being use AI to fill the gaps. seems interesting, but kind of arkward to get working. for starters, filling in corners is neither true inpainting nor true outpainting. you got 2/4 sides where there is info, the other 2 theres nothing.
had a go using a couple inpainting models for ESRGAN, kinda promising for tiny corners, but beyond that it doesnt really help. understandable, im going beyond what the model is made for. and again, works well when theres no detail, but detail approaches the corner, it freaks out.
you can see in the bottom left and sorta on the top right on the ambilight where details are skewing things. and ofc on the ESRGAN the bottom corners are very noticable.
I couldnt get AI outpainting to work on corners. found a website that did an ok job on a single frame but i havent seen anything thatd work on a batch of frames. and also after experiementation i dont think itd be consistent enough to be any good.
and i couldnt find anything else on the internet that would help.
the other option that jumps out to me is manual compositing which i would totally try if i knew what i was doing. plus i dont want to spend too much time fumbling on this side quest right now.
and so i thought id ask around for ideas and thoughts and stuff bc this would be helpful for not only my current project, but potentially future projects, and also other ppls projects

Rocky IV Directors Cut OAR/Hybrid UAR version |

I would like to see the directors cut of Rocky IV presented in the OAR of 1:85 as in the theatrical cut without losing any image, and for the theatrical scenes, we can just overlay both cuts and find a way to restore the remaining image, but for the exclusive directors cut scenes, this will be more challenging.
