Swiss Family Robinson (1960) aspect ratio ?
Posted by: Falcon - 2024-05-20, 11:11 AM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - Replies (2)

I have a 1999 DVD R2, who seems to be in 2.55 format (letterbox...) unlike the HD 2.35 version.
There are many more picture on DVD.

It's a shame that the HD version cuts so much, I don't know if there are HDrips of the old master.

All audio NTSC are synced without re-encoding :

The Watcher in the Woods (1980)
-AC3 5.1 from DVD R1 Buena Vista
Audio from the R1 Anchor Bay DVD :
-DTS 6.1 Discret + Audio Commentary + Stéréo (better than the BD AC3 2.0)
Synced on BD DMC

Escape to Witch Mountain (1975)
-AC3 5.1 + Audio Commentary from R1 DVD
Synced on BD DMC

Return from Witch Mountain (1978)

Alice in Wonderland (1951) :
Audio from Laserdisc Archive Collection [6139 CS]
-Digital Track  (16 bit 44,1 khz) (maybe stéréo mix ?)
-Analog Mono (24 bit 48 khz)  (same master than the mono BD, but not filtered)
-Analog "Score & FX"" (24 bit 48 khz)

  Kill Bill Audio
Posted by: onlysleeping23 - 2024-05-16, 07:47 PM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - Replies (4)

The Kill Bill films were released in several different audio formats for Region 1/A home video releases. We have:

DVD 5.1 Dolby Digital
DVD 5.1 DTS
BD 5.1 640kbps Dolby Digital
BD 5.1 16bit 48khz PCM (incorrectly labeled as 24bit on packaging).
and finally reissues have replaced the PCM tracks with 5.1 DTS-HD (unsure of bit depth).

I had seen reference online to the PCM tracks clipping and decided to investigate myself. Sure enough they are quite heavily clipped in sections.

Seeing as the packaging states 24 as opposed the 16bit track which is actually on the discs, I’m wondering if somebody poorly dithered the sources down to 16 during mastering, causing the extra clipping.

I compared to the DVD 5.1 DTS, which also clips, but much less so. Both mixes appear the same.

I thought my Tarantino XX box set contained the DTS-HD reissues, but alas they are PCM like my first pressings.

I have also seen reference that the DTS-HD tracks have no clipping, but are entirely different mixes. Before I plunge down more cash on these films, can anybody confirm if they are indeed different?

I would still love to get the theatrical DTS discs for these films, but am trying to determine the best audio in the meantime.

Thanks everyone!

Star Small Introduction from Australia
Posted by: spearmintsatay - 2024-05-13, 03:14 AM - Forum: Presentation - No Replies

G'day FanRestore community!

I have been here for a couple months now... & I have been primarily in discussions with @The Film Whisperer - a known member here who has provided me lots of support along with information to Jackie Chan's distributions & varying releases of his films. His work was what brought me here in the first place!

I have been reading a lot of other threads here over-time & found it to be a nice little community.
I love the work that is being done here, preserving media is important as we all know!

Anyway, just thought I'd leave this here to show my appreciation for this forum.

Cheers!  Big Grin

Question Burning Subtitles Location
Posted by: spearmintsatay - 2024-05-13, 03:06 AM - Forum: Audio and video editing - Replies (3)

Hi there,

While I am sure this question has been asked before or in other communities - I am still stuck with this.

What I am trying to do is "burn in" subtitles to my muxed MKV using Handbrake BUT be able to move the location of the subtitles.

I am aware Handbrake does not let you do this - but what would you suggest the best method to do this?
Do I need to go into the subtitle files themselves & reposition them in something like "Subtitle Edit" ?

I may have answered my own question - but I am just clarifying if there is a better way or not.

Cheers!
