I checked MM3 different versions I have. Sadly, the HDnet broadcast is mostly the same as the Blu-ray. Whites are blown out that aren't on the DVD.

I also noticed they DNRed tons of dust out of the frames during the final chase. That Blu-ray is a piece of revisitation shite.

To sum it up, the original trilogy on Blu is the pits.

There are possibilities to fix MM and MM2, but unless an HDTV of 3 with the same master as the DVD exists (ie no dust erased from the images, no blown out whites that look like the film was made by an amateur director of photography), 3 is not salvageable. Unless we upscale the Pal DVD after having converted it to 23.976fps and you somehow get to mix luma and chroma of both the BR and the DVD. Which would be the ideal version.

Here I matched two frames from MM3 as best as I could. They aren't exact as it is a moving shot, but you get the idea. On the Blu-ray, all the metal bars on the window of the car are gone; erased out! Even the tissue over the window on the left disappear.

You might think this shot is a bit low on contrast on the DVD, but it's not.There's sand dust blowing all over Ironbar thus it looks a bit greyish. But by jacking up the contrast on the Blu-ray, they got rid of the dust so that we could see Ironbar better, and thus got rid of detail all over the image. The Blu-ray is that way in most shots of the final chase.

This calls for a replacement program. It's bad. Warner remastering people do not care at all about this series.

Yeah that's pretty bad, they keep screwing up movies left and right. Be nice to find a 35mm

I love the Laserdisc The Road Warrior color regrade, PDB, and I think it is better than the official Blu-Ray. It has a filmic look, because I live in Australia and I think the 1999 DVD and Laserdisc version prefers the Australian look.

Mad Max 2 was recently screened at SXSW (I think it is mentioned earlier in the thread) http://www.aintitcool.com/node/70747 and was a restored 35mm print. Is there any more information on this? Were there any lucky FanResers at the showing?

Did anybody catch the small run in the uk of Mad Max 1 & 2 with Fury Roads release? We're they new prints?

Maybe with the critical acclaim Fury Road is getting across the board there is hope for these classics outside of us Fans.

The UK double bill were DCPs from the studio digital masters - they had the BD colour timing.

Like you said before 1 & 2 are fixable with PDB's version of Road Warrior showing what can be done.

There was a 720p HDTV version floating around I saw a couple of years ago, I believe it was a HDNet release.

EDIT: There is a 14GB 1080i HDTV release on RUTracker, anybody know anything about this version?

Good question, i wondered my self what the 14gb hdtv capture is like. Only one way to find out.

Thanks for uploading Stamper. I just rented the MGM DVD, so I can take a look at that too.

Look at the blue skies, the rope and metal work.

Besides the issues that Stamper mentioned, there is also a lot of telecine wobble in the transfer. For example, if you look at the credits on the Blu-ray you will see the credits slight shifting all over the place. Not sure how to fix all that.
