The 1.33 versions of Sorcerers Stone and Chamber of Secrets are a mix of opened up dialog/exterior shots (some shots have more height info than the 1.78 HDTV/Web versions) and cropped CG/VFX shots. Goblet of Fire to Half Blood Prince are basically the 1.78 versions with the sides shaved off on all shots. Unlike most big studio productions, which finish CG VFX sections at the 2.40 theatrical ratio, the CG shots on the Harry Potters were rendered at a 16:9 size so they could be masked for scope and avoid pan and scanning on 4:3 versions.

gotcha. i own the fullscreens for SS and CoS so i was more concerned with finding the other 1.33 versions. i saw on a different website that goblet of fire has comparable shots to the first two films in 4:3 though, but maybe i can get my hands on a copy of the fullscreen of that. if half blood prince is only a pan and scan of the 1.78 version, then i'll pass lol. thanks for letting me know though! i have an odd love for 4:3 so that's why i may seem so picky about it

The 2016 Limited Edition set of the Arrow Video Herschell Gordon Lewis Feast Blu-ray collection has bonus discs 15 and 16 with 4:3 open matte versions of:

Blood Feast

Scum Of The Earth

Color Me Blood Red

A Taste Of Blood

The Wizard Of Gore

The set was recently issued without the DVD versions and the BD bonus discs included, so the LE set with the bonus discs is super expensive and hard to get nowadays if anyone wants to see 4:3 open matte versions of these. I'm personally interested in seeing the 4:3 version of Blood Feast, so if anyone has the 2016 Herschell Gordon Lewis Feast with that movie/bonus disc lemme know.

@spoRv I would love to see the master list you curated sometime. any chance it will return to your website? I've been searching for something like this for a while now. I noticed you mentioned referencing LDDB on your blog post, and just wanted to add their information doesn't always seem to be correct. I was using them as a reference for a while, but I can confirm, for instance, that my laserdisc of David Cronenberg's SCANNERS is indeed an open matte print, although it's listed on LDDB as Pan & Scan. So I am assuming other entries on there could be wrong as well.

I just noticed, that the old UK DVD of " The Beatsmaster" is ABOUT 1:66:1 letterboxed framed, but Open Matted, compared to the 1.85:1 DVDs and BluRays. ALSO ist might come from a print, givven some dirt on the images that continue due to multiple frames continuosly.

The UK Beastmaster DVD sounds like it's probably opened up if it is indeed 1.66. Theres said to be an old German or Dutch DVD that is 1.33, but the transfer is probably a old VHS->DVD dump.

Germany never had a 1.33:1 Beastmaster DVD, so it might be from the Netherlands. It took years for the Movie to arrive on DVD in Germany. At leats officially. It is possible that a bootleg exist.

I would add the first polish DVD release of "From Dusk till Dawn" from the 'iti home video' to the list of open matte: It is indeed 1.33:1 open matte, just slightly cropped on the sides, compared to the Widescreen, but much Image opend up on Top and Bottom.
