I think Lightstorm did the transfers directly.

They didn't want to pay for a censored 4K master for the UK after the BBFC still wanted cuts to the rats scene and just cancelled the release outright stating 'artistic integrity'

We are talking about Disney here. They are financially shaky, had questionable inexperienced staff and things got so bad that they're dropping their home video release division and licensing it all to Sony.
I can't imagine that helped Cameron.

Of course, Sony will probably do new transfers.
