Looking for the "right" Terminator 2 color grading...

I don't have anything to contribute to the argument as to whether the teal grading is more theatrically accurate or not. Suffice to say that opinion seems to be very strongly divided. So, until some concrete and irrefutable evidence surfaces, I'm going to say that this blanket of teal that Cameron keeps throwing over his movies is just a very acquired taste that I have not yet been blessed with the gift of enjoying.

I think that's the point. Like companies don't keep their logos because the logos are objectively good. They keep them for consistency and creating a symbol in your mind. Not a fan of it, but I'm thinking that's the reason.

Well, it's not actually an opinion. I've seen a 35mm print in september 2014 and reported back on originaltrilogy.com quite soon after. The movie is very much teal, with a touch of purple and the explosions are very much yellow with fewer orange shades than what we've been accustomed to on video. And I have a very vivid memory of the shot of John and injured Sarah climbing the ladder in the steel factory, and when they arrive on top, pretty much no orange around, it was VERY yellow.

The easiest way to tell is the 'red roses' scene. In the remix when The Terminator throws the roses and cocks his shotgun there's echo in the surrounds whereas in the original mix the sound is in the front channels only. Also the music has a quadraphonic sound in the original mix. There's some stuff during the future war as well but its difficult to explain. The strangest change is when The Terminator blasts his way into the cyberdyne lab with the blooper, there's a whooshing sound which is in the front channels in the original mix but in the remix it's in the surround (back) channel.

The scene where I really noticed the teal blanket was Sarah's sanity review. In the 2015 BD the colours are very neutral and the room has a white and clinical look as you would expect for a hospital. In the remaster it's really green, almost like something out of The Matrix (sequels). Even Sarah's skin is almost green. If this is how the scene originally looked then I have no idea why JC would have shot it this way when surely the most effective way to communicate the nature of this scene to the audience would be to have a predominantly white, almost sterile, colour scheme.

But as I said, I've no idea what is theatrically accurate for this movie. I hope to have the same experience as you some day so that I can be similarly convinced. But until then, I've no choice but to remain skeptical until some hard evidence emerges.

In truth, the colour changes alone I could live with. I really like the remastered T1 BD and wish they'd done a similar job with T2. But the ridiculous level of heavy-handed digital processing is too distracting for me to make watching this an enjoyable experience. YMMV

There are 70mm screenings all through January in London, I'm hoping to go as are a couple of other forum members. It should give a more than fair representation of how it looked and sounded theatrically.
Truth be told T1 would probably look the same 'under' the regrain as it was a degrain/cleanup/regrain. Pause and you'll see the DNR.
Anyone else got the new blu yet?

Some parts of the new master look like the original. In other parts they deviate. Like the desert scene, or the hospital review scene.

In the Future War Scene and Opening Titles the fire has some green haze on them. This is really obvious in the Future War explosions.

The overall look was not bad, in terms of grading. But the DNR is a true killer
