[Help] French localised titles list
#41
Oh, too bad! It is the original cut though. I thought too that some other credits fonts looked redone, only in a very close style.

For True Lies The french credits look genuine, the animated main title scan is the same one as the french trailers.

Beber do you have the TMC true lies complete? I would very much like to compare both rips to the DTheater and the original R1 DVD to determine if any of them is a different scan, or composite. I wonder if the NRJ12 isn't a composite of the TMC with the DTheater scan. Here's one grab where we can determine if the masters are the same tweaking hot clipped one, or a different grade from the source:

See how clipped the left side is above Arnold shoulder? On the NRJ12, it's not clipped, it's just sightly hot and we can see the whole blue color.

Here's the same moment, from a raw scan of the negative, unclipped and un-color corrected

My TMC recording is indeed complete. However, it is SD and goes open matte after the credit sequence. I also have a France 4 recording in fake HD that stays in scope.
This is all I have:

SD on TMC :

Fake HD 1080i on France 4 :
[Image: 894170France4TrueLies0202201620h4302h368...115007.jpg]
1080p DTheater :
[Image: 127204TrueLies1080pDTheaterDTSDTSAC3MULT...114230.jpg]
1080p so called HDTV by BHD that looks the exact same as the Dtheater :

720p WEB-DL by ViGi :

1080p First open matte from the Spleen with Russian audio track and a couple glitches, one being patched with scope DTheater :

1080i second open matte from the Spleen :

1080i NRJ 12 :

I also have the French R2 DVD but it's not on my computer for now.

Awesome.  They're all from the same source scan, but the NRJ12 is sightly more yellow. It look close to the fake 1080i on FR4. They both have sightly more information in the clipped highlights, making them more bearable. I'm thinking I should trying mixing the NRJ12 with the Starz, to have a better blend. My rip of the NRJ12 seems to have just sightly more information in the clipped highlights than yours.

It looks like the french titles are inserted into the HD master.

Also on note, I did a compare of the R1 True Lies DVD with the HD master, and there are one frame fluctuations during the opening credits between shots, that catch up, then desync again, then catch up after the credits, so it looks like the original R1 DVD/LD master was made from a composite print too re the credits (ie back then, you had to shorten half a shot between each take where you insert the credit in one shot).

I did a capture of the shot from the Reliance MediaWorks - 20 05 2014 Image Processing Demo Reel, and it appears to be the exact same scan, only raw not corrected, as you can see from the double flop of Arnold's shirt here below. It's the same interlaced source scan. Only I don't get how NRJ12 made it so cleanly progressive, maybe it's due to it being a Pal version, and not NTSC. So there could be two versions of this scan, one that is going on all around, in 23.976, badly interlaced with the double flop during every fast movement (DTheater etc.) and another made at the same time at 25fps that is cleanly progressive with less clipped highlights. So I would say in our quest for a better version of the film, concentrate on any recent pal 25fps airing.

EDIT watched the french disc, is the same as the DTheater, with interlace.

I have a NRJ12 recording of Mission: Impossible you mentionned a few pages ago.

The subtitles look legit:

The credits look legit:

However, I'm not so sure about that "Londres", when compared with "Prague"... The font, the shadow:

As for whether Paramount Channel keeps it orginal or can localize their broadcasts, here's a couple examples of French localized ones:

Beverly Hills Cop 2:

Among many other, I'm sure, I also have:

The Bourne Identity:
[Image: 444084HD1Lammoiredanslapeau2703201620h43...215410.jpg]
[Image: 700783HD1Lammoiredanslapeau2703201620h43...215509.jpg]
However, there used to be an even more French master where the text messages were written in French. Not here though:

The Bourne Supremacy:

But with crappy remade subtitles:

Kingdom of Heaven:

Thor:

The most interesting Marvel to have in localized versions would be The Winter Soldier with Captain America's list of stuff to catch up that changes from country to country depending on the culture references worldwide. Sadly, when I recorded it on TMC, they used the US master with US cultural references.

Wow awesome. Yes the London one seems tacked on. The rest seems totally sourced.

Fuck me stiff, Bourne Identity in French? I'm sure it has the extra silent scene only on the european cut! Awesome! If I remember well, DVD for rent for this title were all french too.

It looks like someone on those channels is intern not paid to customise their releases. So I guess we can count them as "releases" just like there is on the internet.

Actually, no, HD1 Bourne Identity doesn't have that extra silent dinner scene.
