I'd definitely like to make this a project. I'd like to color correct the HD restoration to the "Grindhouse" and sync the English soundtrack to it (and then maybe sync the English to the "grindhouse" also). Just have to find or buy a copy.

When is this suppose to be released by Kino?

That's great news! How does the English mono sound?

The DE disc is out now. Smile

Looks like the US disc just got announced:

I'm sure it's the same restoration but of course no German "Grindhouse" scan...

You probably know already, but what do you say about colors on new BD (4k)?

US release, and they didn't include uncompressed English audio....  Shocked
Audio: Italian / LPCM Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 2304 kbps / 24-bit
Audio: English / Dolby Digital Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 448 kbps

Hmm I was going to pick up the US BD, but now I'm not so sure. Seems lack of contrast and muted colours, but perhaps more detail.

I like the german colors a bit more.

especially, when the skin tone and the wall seems more similar on the US:

Even if the US is a bit sharper.

US vs Grindhouse

A lot of SW released in Germany have same problem (Cold Colors).
I like these classic movies because of the old warm colors.

Isn't this looking more like 35mm?
But a lot of details is crushed.

Edit:
I was completely wrong about Colors on WE DVD, they are terrible.
It looks like VHS2DVD.
More than 60% of details is completely lost.

Only one bad and not complete English audio is available online.

I hope Kino or Arrow can do something about this.

The US BD is not in sync with the DE one. It would take quite a few edits to sync the English track from the former to the latter, and I'm not sure it's worth it.  Here are some spectograms.

Top: R1 DVD
Bottom: US BD

Yes, I know that I haven't matched the levels, but they are so different that I don't really know what to do with them.  The audio on the US BD shows signs of having had the hum from a CRT monitor removed, so it's probably been processed to the extent, but that doesn't mean that it's necessarily bad in other any way. The R1 DVD is even harder to sync to the DE BD; it's a real pain in the neck.  It seems that the DE BD is sourced from very different elements from all the US releases.

It's probably best to track down the LD and get the PCM from that.  It will probably be just as hard to sync, but it's more likely to be worth the effort.

Apart from the inferior colors, I wonder what people's thoughts are on the US BD.  It has a higher bitrate and shows more picture information.  PDB, is it worth regrading the US BD?
