Return of the Living Dead (1985) Shout Factory BD with edited credits
Awesome, bronan. I actually just got the BD finally and that will be sweet to have for it. Big Grin

I'm actually shocked the Japan disc is flawed over the US. From most stories I hear of Japan LDs they usually are superior than US ones sound wise.

Tell me about it! Here's a quick comparison I threw together, JP first then US:

It's possible that the source used for the Japanese LD was a release print of some caliber, whereas the US LD was likely sourced an interpositive.

Yea, that's definitely possible. The interesting part is that the analog track on it is muuuch better than the digital - not as good as the US tracks, but at least serviceable.

Oh yeah, there's quite a difference: The Japanese LD sounds as though it got treeble boosted whilst the US version is much fuller.

That is a very big difference. I would have bet money on the Japan being superior before I heard that. Really odd.

Made some good progress on ROTLD2. Side 1 is synced, side 2 shouldn't take too much longer.

That was fast. Have you compared the LD to the BD audio? Just wondering if it sounds a lot better?

Yea, its definitely an improvement. There is a lot more higher end to the mix, like being able to hear water running in the sewer pipe that is almost absent in the Blu-ray. According to Shout the BD audio is from a VHS tape that sounded better than the laserdisc... yea.. but anyway, because its VHS there are some temporary dropouts and also the pop removal seems to have removed the beginning of some sounds erroneously. So overall, a pretty good upgrade.

LD / BD

Sweet! If only companies took the time and care that many of you guys do here. Seems a lot of companies lie about LD not sounding great... Just don't wanna track them down and properly capture I guess. Hmm.
