It's possible that the source used for the Japanese LD was a release print of some caliber, whereas the US LD was likely sourced an interpositive.

Yea, that's definitely possible. The interesting part is that the analog track on it is muuuch better than the digital - not as good as the US tracks, but at least serviceable.

Oh yeah, there's quite a difference: The Japanese LD sounds as though it got treeble boosted whilst the US version is much fuller.

That is a very big difference. I would have bet money on the Japan being superior before I heard that. Really odd.

Sweet! If only companies took the time and care that many of you guys do here. Seems a lot of companies lie about LD not sounding great... Just don't wanna track them down and properly capture I guess. Hmm.
