Huge thanks to X5gb and bilbofett for their help with acquiring Superman 2. Most of all this went right over my head so I really appreciate the effort of both gents to help me out. If anyone wants a link to the movie let me know.

I'm trying to apply the colour from the itunes rip to the bluray to increase the detail but I'm unsure I'm going about it the right way. I have the itunes above the BD in After Effects set to color blending mode. I've also tried the BD above the itunes set to luminence, they look identical. The colour is different but not exactly like the itunes version, the whites are also still blown out.

Im not trying to create just a LUT. The bluray has blown out details that I'd like to restore.

What exactly do you mean. I have the chroma from the itunes overlayed on the bluray. I've also tried overlaying the luminance from the bluray onto the itunes. You can see the results above.

Overlaying the itunes chroma onto the blu ray luma will not restore the blown highlights. You would have to selectively add the itunes highlight luma to the blu ray luma (probably via some kind of mask), then overlay the itunes chroma onto the newly merged luma.

He means the avisynth Overlay plugin, you can independently control luminance and chroma mix from the two sources. I'm curious to see if your idea will work. I still want to mix the color grade from one source w/ the fidelity and details of the other

I agree. Great recommendation. We're getting quite technical here, but I love that. It would be a big win if he successfully does this
