Superman: The Movie 4K

What about the DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Stereo on the Theatrical Cut BD from the Motion Picture Anthology set? Is that derived from the 35mm mix or is it a fold down of the 70mm?

^ The consensus seems to be that it's the 35mm.

Thanks. Good to know. Looks like we have a fine selection of tracks to choose from for STM.

It's the 35mm DS. That track is so flat that it sounds like plain stereo-even monoish at times. The surround info is more of random frequencies pulled back in ambiance than actual mixed surround. In comparison the 70mm mix on LD and the new 4K is a night and day difference.

Yeah, "flat" is the right word for it.

Anyone know if the 2.0 track on the 3-hour TV version is from the original 70mm mix?

The 2.0 audio on the TV cut blu-ray is duplicated mono, except for the titles being taken from a stereo source. Considering it was an extended edit made for TV after the fact, I would assume an entirely new mono mix was made. There are even music differences in one or two scenes since I would imagine they couldn't license the song again for TV or something.
Finest kind.

Thanks for clearing that up. I still want to give that version a chance someday.

Did anyone ever capture that mix/upload it?

I have the LD audio from the Japanese version.

Hi Guys!

I'm new to the forum, but as I posted on my presentation here , I'm a great enthusiast to original audio preservation and to 4k UHD as I believe we're pratically getting archival quality at home.

Back on the subject, I have the UHD and TC BD, and I'd really like to make a mux with the most complete audio catalog I can get for this amazing movie.

So, to summarize things here, am I correct to state:
1) The UHD has a new Atmos mix, based on the Donner 2006 DC, and the 70mm split surround to 5.1 DD 640kbps
2) The TC BD has a new DTS-HD MA 5.1 remix and the 35mm DS to DTS-HD MA 2.0
3) The Japanese NJWL-01013 LD has the 70mm mono sourround to PCM 2.0 Stereo Surround

Booshman,

if I understand correct, it's the above mentioned LD mix that you got synced to the UHD, right?

WOW that should be quite something!

I'm an absolute huge enthusiast of LD audio. IMO they have just an analog feel to them, that even when we get theatrical mixes for catalog titles on BD or UHD, it's not even close. They're usually anemic sounding and lack the punch and high frequencies of the LD.

Are the problems with the BD and UHD audio mixes down being tampered with, bad compression or the DAC used while decoding / viewing?

I have noticed differences between A/V amps (set on direct) that hold credence to the quality of the DAC involved.
From a technical standpoint there should be no problem containing all the punch and high frequencies with modern day codecs.
Are PCM tracks as troublesome?
