[Canceled] Aliens TV Cut and Theatrical Regrade (Fox THX Laserdisc)
To answer your question Stamper, I put this on the backburner till I got more sources to use. I still think the LD is a nice source to use and I want to release a TV cut version. It just might be awhile.

The THX LD? That would be awesome.

Well I was hoping to use more 35mm examples to help color correct the BD but in the end I just stuck with the THX LD's look and started with the TV cut. Here is an example of what a rough regrade of the BD to the LD vs the original BD:

Those 1995 THX discs continue to deliver the goods - we should be very grateful to the folks who managed that project, since they seem to have been pretty much the only ones interested in maintaining a theatrical look. Not to mention the superb soundtracks...

Comparison looks great, PDB.

Thanks Jonno,.

I feel sad that at one time I thought my LDs were useless and got rid of them all. Now I'm back in. First, it was the soundtracks that got me back in then the color timing.

Whereas the 95 Alien LD looks to be pretty damn close to a 35mm print, I'm not so sure with Aliens. But if they went all out on making the Alien LD look right, I assume Aliens would be the same, especially after the disaster that was the CE LD.

What I do like is the this color grade is that it is both somewhere between the BD and DVD looks but also unique with warm skin tones. Both the BD and DVD have very cool skin tones.

Awesome, it's weird in some scenes, the LD looks like it as a red blanket on, on some other scenes no, whereas in some scenes, the BR looks it as a green blanket on, in other no! I prefer the dark LD take. Can't wait!

The LD is actually very warm and alternatively very cool. The opening when the shuttle is recovered is very blue and cool. Ripley in the medical bay matches the BD pretty damn close. From there the LD is much warmer or has warmer skin tones. From the inquiry, Ripley's apartment and scenes on the Sulaco. The transition is the video I posted above. Once the marines get to the planet surface the LD becomes very blue when the marines enter the colony, the hive battle and the queen fight in the colony. The scenes of the marines waiting in the colony tend to be warmer/redder skin tones.

The BD has a continuous green blanket over the whole thing but also a very cool look to the whole thing.

I'm surprised all of the official transfers aren't a lot warmer, given these blankets I keep hearing about

(boom tish)

Each transfer reflects the color timer of the time and the technology of the time.

The 95 LD is by the same color timer as Titanic.

The BD is the same color timer as Avatar.

I don't mind his new color timing, I just think it's a bit pale re:human flesh and faces. They all look like they are pale white.

The 95 better reflects the prints of the times.
