A couple weeks back, Kino's official Twitter account confirmed that Paramount will be releasing Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West on 4K for its 55th Anniversary!


This has been strongly suspected for a while now, and I also recently spotted a Paramount employee watching, and rating it on his Letterboxd account, which has happened leading up to eventual Paramount releases. Obviously this is Paramount, so we have to be cautiously optimistic here. I'll update the post once more details comes out.

I'm a bit of an analog media nerd. I collect vhs and laserdiscs for their audio so i can put it with the newer non composite sinful video. preferably bluray but i use what i can get my hands on. i have a domsday duplicator but im very lazy so i havent set it up. especially since ac3 audio is what i mostly care about from laserdiscs and i can cap that already. nice to meet y'all

I’ve got a video file I’m looking to use for a project which was way too much grain to fit with the rest of the material. I was wondering if there’s a way of lowering the grain without too much loss of detail? I know this might be a losing battle but any suggestions would be welcome.

Obviously people are paying more attention to "Charade" at the moment with it being added to the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.

Today I found something quite baffling; a Taiwan Blu-ray:

All of the Peanuts animated specials (at least to my knowledge) had a sponsor tag in their intros and closing credits that were excised from all home video releases. It seems superficial, but I'm asking if any of them were saved. I know the tags for A Charlie Brown Christmas are available, and ones for All-Stars and It's the Great Pumpkin exist albeit in low quality, but what about the rest?

Hitchcock's talkie version of Blackmail, released by Kino on BD, was a complete disaster.
Kino released not only one, but two falty version of the talkie on the same package. Instead of the original 1:20:1 aspect ratio, Disc One had the picture at 1:12:1 (vertically stretched), while Disc Two presented it at 1.33:1 version and horizontally stretched. Apparently the black bars are also not totally black, presenting a RGB value of R3 B3 G3 instead of 0 (zero), but I don't know if it also affected the movie's colors.
   
Is anyone interested in fixing this mistake?

Ps: Looks like Prime Video (https://is.gd/dfWZij) and Vudu (https://www.vudu.com/content/movies/deta...ail/561471) have the movie in HD and proper aspect ratio (although probably a lower bitrate).

Hi all,

Just bought the Spanish (bootleg?) Blu-ray and it has forced subtitles (boo) and the audio is a mess, the English track is bizarre! The speech is all in the left channel and the rest is in the right!
I have forced a mode on my receiver and it's better, but still terrible.
Does anyone have any other tracks from any format? Ideally LD?

Merry Christmas everyone!

A special (slightly) early Christmas present for you all. Jingle All the Way put together for the best possible viewing experience we can get. I have combined the 2015 Blu-ray with the 2022 4K Disney Plus web stream.

No recent home media release of Jingle All the Way is especially good, the best release was probably the DVD, which definitely shows its age by today's standards. The Blu-ray's aspect ratio is wrong in both the Theatrical and Director's Cut, and it even shifts throughout the film in the Director's Cut. The colours are really cold and lack any contrast with a very washed out presentation. On the flip-side, the Disney Plus web stream has the correct aspect ratio, a colour palette that more closely resembles the DVD (with a big green push) however the saturation, contrast, etc. are cranked up so much that it looks like vomit. A lot of details, especially darker and brighter sections are crushed to all hell and look a lot worse than the Blu-ray even with the higher resolution and cleaner transfer.

So what I've done is combine the Blu-ray transfer's video and 4K transfer's colours, pinching any shots from the 4K video that was salvageable and regraded for consistency in colours, contrast, etc. The Director's Cut scenes are sourced from the Blu-ray, with the aspect ratio fixed and colours regraded to match the rest of the transfer. The audio that is provided is from the Blu-ray.

• Fixed 2015 Blu-ray transfer's aspect ratio
  

• Inserting and regrading of Director's Cut scenes to match the rest of the film
  

• Fixed a minor visual glitch only present in the 2015 Blu-ray Director's Cut using the 2015 Blu-ray Theatrical Cut.
