N.B. I have turned this into a generic heads-up thread for free software that is on offer, by which I mean available for a limited time. (Note the emphasis on free, by which I mean gratis rather than free in the Richard-Stallman sense of the word.) EDIT: Offers that involve a minimal payment to charity (e.g., Humble Bundle) can also be posted.
Offers don't necessarily have to be from giveawayoftheday.com, though of course they might be, and the software on offer might be limited to a fixed term of free use. Please note that I don't intend to download everything that gets posted here, and so I can't always endorse/recommend the software or field questions about it. Please also note that, as this is FanRes, I tend to confine offers that I post about to things that are in some way related to video, audio, image-manipulation, etc.
Thanks: DigitalModiFicaTion from fanedit.org
Original Post
Faneditor DigitalModiFicaTion posted this on fanedit.org. This is just a heads-up. I don't know the details of the software, so please don't ask me. It might be of use to someone.
N.B. This is very much "of the day" in that you now have less than 24hrs to decide to download it.

The Indy films are being shown on BBC in order, yesterday Raiders, today was Temple. As always BBC are using the same masters as before, rather than pay for new ones. Raiders looks to be the pre-WOWOW scan and has the evil CGI cliff. Temple seems to be the same scan as the Blu but with no dirt cleanup and more grain (less DNR), most likely Crusade will be the same tomorrow.
Unfortunately they are being shown in a nice daytime slot so most (but not all) of the violence is cut. You can see some of a man's face melt off, just not all of it! Just enough to give the boys and girls nightmares.
Just out of curiosity have these masters ever shown up elsewhere? And would they be of any use to anyone in a project? I'm recording the three of them on my Tivo box.
Also the Back to the Future trilogy is showing on channel 4 but I'm not too optimistic about those as channel 4 compresses too much usually. They're also on NetFlix, but again they've been compressed too much.
It's the season for wintery movies, and I'm coming to the end of work on a particular snowy classic - Where Eagles Dare (made 1968, released 1969).
The Blu-ray release, while strong on picture quality, is a disappointment: the intermission and entr'acte from the original release are edited out, and the only sound option is a modern 5.1 remix.
I've used the 1988 laserdisc as a guide to reconstructing something close to the original version. The main video source is the Blu-ray, but the intermission is reinstated, and the audio track is the PCM from the laser.
As an accompaniment I've also made a UK cinema intro reel incorporating 1969 ads, trailers, and a short to enjoy before the main feature.
A couple of caveats: the Blu-ray's VC-1 has excellent definition, but it is a very dark image compared with the laserdisc. I have not attempted any colour alteration in this release, though may do in future versions.
Additionally, while the original release was in 70mm 6-track and 35mm mono, the 1988 laser has a stereo PCM track. It isn't clear whether it's an upmix or a downmix, but nonetheless its fidelity and presence are far more pleasing than that of the BD remix. Since the picture has been edited to accommodate the intermission and entr'acte, the BD 5.1 is not included on this release.
Finally, the intermission and entr-acte screens on the laserdisc look suspiciously video-y; my HD recreations hopefully have a more authentically filmic texture.
Remember how Quentin Tarantino originally intended to make his feature film debut, Reservoir Dogs, using black and white 16mm stock? Well, for another early project, I plan on restoring the film in accordance with his original low-budget vision. Obviously, this restoration will use Carolco logos as seen on early trailers. Preliminary specs are as follows:
VIDEO
Resolution: 1080p (BD), 480p (NTSC DVD), 576p (PAL DVD)
Aspect ratio: 1.37:1, 2.35:1, and 1.78:1

The above spec list is not final, which is most true for the subtitles; I might have to drop some of the subtitle options, ultimately, and I have no illusions that I'll be able to get everything I want for this project. But I'll do my darnedest with what I do have.

This one might not gain much interest, but I watched this movie as a kid and have been looking for the English version for a while. There have been several productions of Heidi over the years, but this particular production, directed by Werner Jacobs, has always been a favorite.
This was West German production, it has been released on DVD, but only with German audio and no English subtitles. However, there is an English dub out there. It was picked up by Warner Bros - Seven Arts and released in the US dubbed in English in 1967. I think it had a limited run in theaters, and later aired on TV in the 80s.
I found a TV broadcast VHS recording from the late 80s (88 or 89) with the English audio, however it had significant hissing and buzz. It is also missing a couple minutes in the middle of the film where someone recorded over part of the movie.
I have also acquired one of the German DVDs. It seems there is a 2003 DVD and a 2007 DVD. One has a run time of 91 minutes, while the other has a runtime of 87 minutes, which has a couple short scenes cut. I have the 87 minute DVD from 2007 but have not verified the VHS runtime without commercials.
My goal for the project is to clean-up and sync the English dub with a rip of the German DVD, which offers much better picture quality than the VHS. It would also be nice to create English subtitles.
If anyone happens to have the 91 minute DVD, that would be a help. If by some chance someone has access to a better copy of the English audio that would also be a huge help.
I thought the price ($600) seemed quite fair for a classic movie like this on 35mm, in apparently good state. Open Matte, colors look decent and not faded (although hard to tell from the pictures).
I'm poor like a Kirchenmaus (as we say in Germany), but I thought someone might care. Also posted it on OT.
Do we have any thread or subforum to post finds like these to, though? I see interesting 35mm prints every now and then and I'm starting to feel like I'm cluttering the forum with my posts about it, maybe a dedicated place for this would be nice?
As suggested by spoRv, this thread is dedicated to trying to get a hold of the World Trade Center Spider Man trailer, as it has a scene/sequence found nowhere else, and scanning it.
I have contacted the seller and he agreed to wait with payment until next month, so I will be buying it. Ergo, please don't bid on it, or someone's money will be wasted.
Sadly, the price is insane ($300). If anyone has (or is) a rich uncle with a tendency to impulsive spending, this is for you. Or maybe enough people are interested to add something to the pot?
Though, my hope is to get the German one, which should be possible, as it's kind of a niche, despite the rarity.
In either case, scanning will be required. Is anyone here able and willing to do this? If I dish out 60 EUR for a trailer, my budget will be overextended anyway, so I sadly can't contribute much.
I could theoretically scan it frame by frame with my Reflecta ProScan 7200, but by my calculations, it would take me 2 weeks of non stop work without sleep, and frankly I'm not that disciplined or motivated. Nor do I have the hard drive space. Nor the patience to restart if I realize I've had some faulty settings.
Preferably, for the German one, someone in Europe should do the scanning, to keep the shipping costs in a reasonable range.
