Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels
Posted by: alleycat - 2020-09-10, 03:11 PM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - Replies (23)

Hi All,

I don't suppose anyone has the blu ray of Lock Stock from either Hong Kong, Japan, Scandinavia or Thailand? Every other release uses VC1 but those releases use AVC.

I'm planning a reconstruction of the director's cut using the blu ray and the extra scenes from the DVD, plus the color grading from the DVD.

Also what are people's thoughts on the level of grain in the blu ray - see below? Would you leave it as is or try and remove a little? I read it was shot on 16mm and blown up to 35mm so I guess it will never look great.

Thanks

  Thor Ragnarok IMAX version
Posted by: awsmguy145 - 2020-09-09, 10:23 AM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - Replies (9)

Hey everyone, I have the Russian Blu-Ray remux of Thor: Ragnarok which happens to include the IMAX scenes within it. However, the aspect ratio of the IMAX and scope scenes do crop out at the sides at times. Since I am horrible at this stuff, I can send the Blu-Ray file to whoever wants to have a crack at it. Just send me a PM.

Thanks Smile

  The Hobbit Original Structure?
Posted by: DarkLordRyan - 2020-09-08, 11:24 PM - Forum: Official and unofficial releases - Replies (1)

I was wondering if there was ever a workprint of the original Hobbit Two Film Structure that anyone knows of. I know about the "Two Film" Fanedit, but it cuts out scenes that were in the book which I don't think Jackson would've done in the Two Film version he made, given how faithful the LotR trilogy was. I was just wondering if someone had a general idea of how Jackson's Two Film Structure was actually composed. Thoughts?

Thanks.

[Released] The Matrix (1999) UHD Regraded
Posted by: sanjuro_61 - 2020-09-08, 01:49 PM - Forum: Released - Replies (37)

...using film cells as color reference.

Hello guys.

The goal of this regrade was, of course, to make it look like it did back in the theaters in 1999. For color reference I used a collection of Film Cells  although many scenes on the 4K UHD already looked pretty much spot on. Many scenes, but not all.

Important things wrong in the 4K UHD:

- Cyan push/cyan tint. The 4K has an extreme cyan push on some scenes. Way too much saturation that needed to be fixed. Some shots have also a cyan tint like first jump, woman in red, or the rooftop shooting. Based on the cells, those scenes are wrong (actually you don't need film cells to see some scenes are wrong right away...).

- Teal. Yeah, our old friend teal. Many scenes inside the ship are tealized. Not only tealized, but also have a slight blue tint. This has been fixed too.

- Green tint. This is more difficult to see, but it's definitely there. Also fixed.

And of course I did some minor corrections, for color consistency, mainly, also to fix some weird HDR glitches and even to fix a noticeable use of a "power window" for the blue pill...

Why not using the 35mm Version 2 print scan realesed a few years ago as a reference?, you might have wondered. (Gallery -> imgur.com/a/5mTFn)
Here's an interesting comparison between a few sources that speaks for itself:

Well, as you can see, because it looks like crap. Colors are way off.
PERIOD.

Something worth noticing about the film cells is that you can't just match the regrade exactly to what you see on them. There is a red tint, specially noticeable on darker shots, and a handful of them have also wrong whites. But the colors are there. They just need to be balanced before using them as a reference.

It's a SDR release. You can find the tonemapping luts I used on the Star Wars Trilogy Forums. The best one, for the most part of the film, is Lut1.

  Pitch Black DVD audio request
Posted by: BDgeek - 2020-09-08, 05:44 AM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - Replies (3)

Hi there!

With the absolute outstading Arrow UHD realese for this film. I'm looking for Universal Pictures original DVD R1 DTS and DD tracks to compare them all. And if it's worth, I'll atempt to sync them to this release.

The Thearical cut is preferred, but the Unrated is fine as well.

I'd really appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks a lot!

ps: If anyone needs the UHD track, I can help you out.
