There was an unofficial non-disney sequel to Disney’s Treasure Island starring Robert Newton. It is no where near as good as the original, but it has Robert Newton as in my mind the greatest screen pirate.

Anyway i have the VCI dvd ‘remastered’ dvd which has the cinemascope print. The remaster is crap. They did letterbox instead of anamorphic. Supposedly the aspect ratio is 2.55:1 what i noticed is the center of the film is spread very wide  so people look fat, and the edges are squished, so when there is movement there, it is quicker than when they move in the center if the film. 
I attempted to use the globe in one scene as a reference to get proper pixel height and width trying to make it look like a perfect circle when it was in the center if the picture. But i still have issues when it is at the edges looking much like an egg. 

When i fixed the pixels in the center the total film aspect ratio went from 2.55:1 to about 2.40:1. I think if i could some how restretch just the compressed edges i could get closer to the original theatrical 2.55:1. 
Anybody know of an avi script that could help with that?

The next big thing with the dvd is there are areas that are dark and areas that are completely blown out. I know there isn’t much i can do without the raw video, but i am wondering if anybody out there wants to help with do some minor color regrading, as that is beyond my skills.  

Once i finally have the aspect ratio done and the colors fixed, was hoping to use topaz video enhancer to maybe bring it up to 1080p. It wouldn’t be perfect, but k think it would be a far better version that is available. Given that it is in public domain now, there is very little chance of a true remaster.

After finding some on-line releases that use BD extracted subtitles (in .sup format) and tone map it to the exact same color of the UHD-BD release, I was really intrigued and eager to perform this kind of conversion.

The best solution I could find so far is this tool:

It's indeed an easy to use and works. The problem is that apparently it doesn't allow the user to change the tone mapping parameter. It defaults to a dark gray, while most of the original UHD-BD subtitles have a lighter shade of gray.

Since it's based on BDsup2sub, there's probably a way to do it in this program. But I couldn't really find out how. The best I could is described bellow, but when you load the .idx file it's clear that it looses quality in a way I can only describe as presentiing jaggies or stairstepping effect. 

- load a blu-ray sup file
- export it as SUP/IDX
- load the exported sup/idx file
- change the palette mode to 'Create new'
- check the colors in use under 'Edit DVD Frame Palette'
- edit the palette under 'Edit imported DVD palette'
- export it back as SUP(BD).


The subtitles from the on-line releases don't have this downside.

Has anyone performed this conversion or know how to do it? 
Any help will be much appreciated.

1. Am I right that raw video on Laserdisc is somethimes better than DVD, example Aliens SE on my DVD PAL looks like someone use a little dnr to smooth video in comparsion to Laserdisc raw mpeg2:

2. Where I can find in net Aliens Special Edition NTSC LDRip in Mpeg2, or Theatrical? I think colors are these same in both version. Widescreen will be nice.

I live in Poland problem is availability of Laserdisc, not to mention ripping So I ask You for help.

I'm converting some 00000.m2ts files from BluRay rips into MKV's using MKVToolNix but it doesn't work with the chapters.txt files so I can preserve them. Is there a way to convert them for use in MKVToolNix or alternatively is there another way to convert the rips to MKV's and keep the chapters?

Reports are coming in that the track labelled as "original mono audio" on the new Psycho UHD is just a folddown of the surround remix with new added sound effects and other issues.

Fortunately the mono audio on the German Turbine BD is the original and syncs perfectly to the UHD uncut version of the movie with a delay of +667ms.

I've got a really simple project I wanna do but haven't done any video editing for years.

I want to take the main feature off a blu ray, trim the ending and then graft on the original extended ending that is available as an extra.

A/V stats are the same (1080p, ~24fps, LPCM).

Ultimately, I'd like to output the final product as an mkv with no re-encoding (although minimal re-encoding at the splice point would be tolerable).

Any suggestions for all-in-one free or trial software with a minimal learning curve to do this? I already have both clips demuxed and ready to go.

Scream supplies the film's original Dolby Stereo as the default (and only) track on both discs: a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Stereo (1614 kbps, 24-bit) on Disc One and a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Stereo (1646 kbps, 24-bit) on Disc Two.

The Shout Factory (Scream) release contains two different cuts: theatrical and desaturated (both, 2.0 stereo mix) but Laserdisc 4.0?

How can that difference be possible? What is the real original Dolby stereo track? I was wondering if it would be nice to have a preservation with the LD track.

The movie was originally released with a mono mix, but blu-rays only features stereo tracks (and Criterion has missing shots).

Anyone have the Eraserhead laserdisc and can capture the audio to obtain the PCM mono track?

I'd like to sync the original LD audio to the Capelight blu-ray. If you can capture the video as well, this would help syncing a lot.
