I came from the OriginalTrilogy forums (Dat_SW_Guy, aswell as on TSWT of the same name as the one I use here!) and I came here to Fanres because I was interested and researched about information about certain color timing differences of a lot of classics, more specifically "Back To The Future" as I am interested in making a "35mm Technicolor Recreation" of my own, however I am quite a novice at restoration and color grading so I would like to learn and meet people who are well versed in this field.

This is purely a request, as I have no idea what I'm doing or whether it would be feasible. Despite the colour grading, DNR and edits, I presume that the latest UHD release of T2 has the most detail? Would be great to see a 4K regrade of the director's cut, with some of the edits taken out (purple laser fire and the T1000's balls most importantly ). I'm guessing reinstating director's cut scenes might be a little jarring, considering they're only available in 1080p. Maybe upscaling those scenes would help. Hopefully they'd look okay with the rest of the 4K transfer being regraded. Also, I'm guessing it's arguable what might be the best mix of the audio track? I would be happy to contribute where I can, if that means financially or something.

I will create a hybrid cut of the greatest movie "All the Way, Boys" (1972). The German Blu-ray from 3L and the Italian Blu-ray from Mustang Entertainment will be used for my project. The German long version on the Blu-ray is completely uncut, but it missed some scenes from the Italian version, it contains several scenes that include extended and alternative scenes, as well as beatings or billiard scenes. I insert these scenes for the German long version. The German long version was scanned from a negative, it offers a solid HD feeling, but it also has different colors and the quality is also different. The Italian Blu-ray is also on real HD and has a different color design compared to the German long version, but the quality is quite good for an old film by the two warlords. I tried to adapt the coloring of the Italian version for the German using Color Matching by Dr. Dre, unfortunately it is very difficult to do it because the German quality is different. Then I adjust the color of the German version for the Italian version. The inserted scenes from the Italian version fall off slightly, but you can live with them. The main thing in high definition!
I've already got 2 Blu-rays and I'm standing in the middle of the video editing and it occurred to me whether I could dub the English soundtrack too. Then I found an English soundtrack on the Internet and it's the Australian DVD. So...

In addition to the German audio track, I would also like to have an English audio track for my project. I know that there is no full English track, just the shorter US cut that is on VHS. So, the Australian DVD, which should have a length of 105 in PAL, it should be corresponded to the old German DVD (first edition) by E.M.S.

I'm asking, is the run length of the Australian DVD correct? If so, I could import it, but I need exact facts. If no, where can I find it?

Meanwhile there is also a shorter Italian version on the German DVD/BD from 3L (on the Blu-ray is included as a bonus) and the missing German dubbing is filled with the English soundtrack. This is an advantage to get a full English audio track.

English ??? (I'm looking a DVD where is included an english audio track for a 105 mins version.)

So one of my upcoming projects is the extended version of Ransom. A friend is capturing the LD and he has the AC3 LD on the way to him as we speak. There is also a DTS LD, but it's quite expensive. I'm toying with the idea of buying this as well to capture the DTS track, but the disc is at least $130. I guess I could sell it afterwards to get back some of the money, but what I'm trying to figure out is in general how better a DTS track is over an AC3 track? I know on paper the bit rate is much higher, but I read a review of the Jurassic Park LD's and the reviewer said with their setup there was hardly any noticeable difference between the AC3 and DTS tracks. It's a lot of money to drop and I can't find any reviews of the Ransom tracks, let alone someone comparing the two. 

Any thoughts?

I hope I’m not out of line to be creating this post, I was given the go ahead by Feallen. My only involvement is in helping to organize much of the funding.

But I realize some people here contributed to the project based merely on the proposal as it was posted here. And if some of you are not in the Star Wars Trilogy message board, you may not be privy to the drama from last week.

Let me just assuage any fears. All money has been collected by Williarob— Hulot never handled a dime of it.

The project is in progress under those new more capable hands.

Any updates of interest to those who contributed through this board will thus be posted here.

Just wanted to say a quick hello and thank admin for accepting me ... I guess with my username it's easiest to just call me GA  

I am entirely new to the world of fan restorations and edits so have never tried anything like this myself. I am really interested in how the process works but, as a cinephile, fascinated by what is "out there".

I'm a huge horror fan, I used to collect VHS copies of the DPP "Banned List" from the UK, how I wish I had kept those tapes nowadays to digitize! I also used to collect laserdiscs and have a couple of nice ones remaining (Blade Runner Criterion, Twelve Monkeys Criterion, Exorcist Japanese Release - signed by Linda Blair!).

I was researching and desperately trying to seek out a decent transfer of The Keep which I know people have edited from HDTV/laserdisc with limited results but still fascinated to see it again!

Anyway ... that's me ... hoping I can find a way to contribute even if it's just with obscure movie knowledge!

Blu-ray release regraded to come closer to the Golden Cinema LD release (hopefully with no encoding issues). What I did here was aim to come close to Colek's release while reducing the magenta tones of the Golden Cinema LD colours; as well as adding back the blue that often isn't kept in the most recent releases. 







Full disclosure that, as we know, the original release wasn't the greatest and does have its problems; my regrade might thus have the same inherent flaws but I hope it does present an acceptable viewing option all the same.
