[Canceled] Aliens TV Cut and Theatrical Regrade (Fox THX Laserdisc)
I'd like that grain plate, except the thread isn't within my pay grade, so to speak.

That's right. The colors were far better.

If anything, my memory of it (Trek II) is preferable to the current BD, though there are probably other factors in play (the DCP's dynamic range for one, and the fact that I didn't like the remaster's colours as much as the HDTV - however incorrect that might be).

Anyway, Aliens on DCP was still rather cool and green for my liking - it's still very much a product of the 2010 revisions. I'm looking forward to the LD regrade immensely.

Since we've been talking about Alien's soundmixes elsewhere... is the 1995 LD AC-3 track for Aliens worth looking into? Everything points towards it reflecting the 6-track mix, and while this is likely also on the BD (in 4.1), the LD version stands to be a little less 'tamed'.

That would've been Synnöve:

These sorts of factors will drastically effect the look of the resultant transfer.

Even so, how could they miss such gross color changes? Don't they pop a sample disc in a player to check the final product (it's called Quality Control in every other industry)?

[added thought: do wrong colorspace conversions even produce this degree of color distortion, to take the sole blame?]

Is this one finished? Because there is a version just upped on MS, taken from Fundamental collection. I'm confused.

I get check discs to review for a number of companies and you would be surprised how late in the stage they come. I've seen companies ship retail items earlier that sending check discs out to reviewers

you should use the alien saga mail order DVD for references of the 35mm.

Check the EPK featurette and the Grunts in Space documentary + profile of James Cameron & Sighorney Weaver. It's great reference material and probably left out because it contradicts the release so much.

But the Colors I think are really great on most of the footage and it definitely reminds me of how it used to look on VHS. I strongly  suggest looking at this documentary.

But I like what you are doing I think it is great.

EDIT.

The TV Cut is an interesting version in it's own right.... Is there any interest in Restoring an uncensored version? Sorry and apologies made a mistake with footage regarding Burkes uncensored Death from DVD Documentaries.

I think it's good that the Colony scenes are gone... But it would be good to handle it as "Newts Tale" as a supplemental extra. Like it's own little film.

You can do your own custom TV cut from the Blu-ray by reassembling the seamless files in the correct order. Someone posted a list on OT just follow it. No reencode involved!

No I Don't want to make my own custom cut. I think PDB is on to something when he said that the TV cut sans the censorship was the version before him being asked to cut it back for running time. or a already slightly trimmed version.

The only scenes that I would re-instate are the extra shots of sulacco before the cryo tubes open and Burkes uncensored death (due to him being meant to appear in the Hive in the first assembly) and his ambiguous demise was kept because of the scene occuring later but not extended to show he was dead. perhaps extend the fist hive gun battle after "let's Rock" with the aliens being blown apart from the documentary?

The scenes that "could have" been in the prior version I think are as follows.

Sulaco asleep with "i'M getting to old for this sh*t"
50/50 on newt biting hicks and "does she have rabies?"
Hicks after gun turrets "they are in the perimeter!" Plus nervous shot of hicks from trailer.

Basically TV cut as is but without censorship to language or scenes of Censorship cut.

But when PDB was saying in this thread was correct about being a cut before the shortening but it might have also been been trimmed a bit already. Basically I am talking about having a guess at Camerons ideal cut. Which the TV cut is very close to but still slightly trimmed and censored.

For want of a better word I think the TV cut is nigh on 97% Camerons ideal Cut. Basically I give you the idea and I think a lot can be inferred from this version.

I would love you to go one step further but I won'the push for it....
