[Canceled] Aliens TV Cut and Theatrical Regrade (Fox THX Laserdisc)

Honestly I gave up on this project earlier this year since other projects did similar regrades and there seems to be TV cuts around now. With no more space to mine I lost interest pretty close to the video being done after extensively revising the luma. Oh well.

Once PDB looks at that documentary footage and if needed I will rip and send him a copy if needed Because what I think he has done so far looks incredible but I think the laserdisc is a little or slightly misleading... Like the scenes on the sulauco when they eat have a yellow tint.

But also the warmth say of newt talking to Ripley in Bed are warm but not quite as warm as the reference posted here.

Basically I am pretty confident that if PDB looks at the documentary footage he will have it all in the bag! Which would be fantastic and would be further a true representation of a print which is really I think PDB's end goal.

As far as my ideas go I don't really care that much getting it looking right is the main thing but people would go crazy for extra aliens being blown apart and I would offer to do sound effects for these small parts if needed and match to sound mix depending on the source.

Basically I think this is a very important thing and PDB is very very close...

I ended up smashing through the whole film yesterday on a 10 hour focused regrade using the documentary I mentioned as a reference on the original special edition dvd release.

I am really pleased with the results if you want a reference for what I came to as a comparison upon using the 35mm footage as a guide and manually matched I will be happy to give you some caps.

It was not that difficult at least using that as a source because it was fairly similar.

I think I'm going to resurrect this project. I was going through my files while working on MM2/RW and had a desire to finish this and another Aliens project to go with it. The plan it to finish the TV Cut/LD grade and then do a theatrical cut using all the 35mm materials I have gathered. For now the TV cut is rendered in Lag AVI and I need to sync the PCM soundtrack but I did a lot of tweaking to the original project, particularly with curves. For now, MM2 and Blade Runner 2.0 are still my priorities at the moment.

Great news, really keen to see what the 35mm regrade ends up like - the pics you & Servo shared looked great, very different to the BD (and LD to be fair).

you should use the alien saga mail order DVD for references of the 35mm.

Check the EPK featurette and the Grunts in Space documentary + profile of James Cameron & Sighorney Weaver. It's great reference material and probably left out because it contradicts the release so much.

But the Colors I think are really great on most of the footage and it definitely reminds me of how it used to look on VHS. I strongly  suggest looking at this documentary.

But I like what you are doing I think it is great.

The TV Cut is an interesting version in it's own right.... Is there any interest in Restoring an uncensored version? Sorry and apologies made a mistake with footage regarding Burkes uncensored Death from DVD Documentaries.

I think it's good that the Colony scenes are gone... But it would be good to handle it as "Newts Tale" as a supplemental extra. Like it's own little film.

I own that documentary too, very well done.

Anyone can make an uncensored version of the TV cut at home, there's a playlist to match to mkv on the OT.
