[Canceled] Aliens TV Cut and Theatrical Regrade (Fox THX Laserdisc)
I wish they did cool screenings like this here Undecided

Well it seems they used the blu Ray as the source for the screening. It looked epic on the screen but you could tell it was missing that extra layer of quality in the resolution a few times. Overall a great experience but the colours were consistent with the blu ray. Also weirdly it was a Dolby Stereo track used instead of a discreet track. Voices bleed into the left and rights and the bass was somewhat lacking.

That's disappointing that they couldn't even get a dcp of the movie

If they project any older film here in Italy you can be CERTAIN that it's from some recent bluray. 35mm is mostly for private screenings since the laws on 35mm ownership are a bit obscure and little understood.
When I'm in the UK I often see screenings of 80's movies being advertised but without the magical "35mm" marking on the poster I don't even bother.

I actually boycot digital screenings of older movies ahah, I hate watching movies like that, it's like a glorified living room where I have to pay to watch a film I already own while somebody above me presses the "play" button for me.

Ah got you. That's disappointing to pay good money for what you can watch at home

Well, watching it on a huge screen still had to be nice, right?

Granted, not worth paying for something you could see at home, but still...

Were the prices low, yes sure, it's nice to see them on a bigger screen, I guess... to some extent though because some modern color timings just piss me off but, anwyay, here in Italy the admission ticket is just the same as the one for a new movie. I personally think it's just a new form of exploiting audiences but I could rant for hours about this topic. Ahah!

I was happier to pay a higher amount to watch the Star Wars trilogy on 35mm rather than some hard disk sent from Fox with a play button ready for easy use.

Personally, I like the "immersion" factor, sound-wise, of a movie theater. But for them to charge the same ticket price for older films as they do for new ones is ridiculous. I agree with you that it's a new form of exploiting audiences, but I understand why they are doing it. There just isn't as many people going to see movies at the theaters anymore and they are trying to make up the difference. Unfortunately, this is a horrible business model, that will ultimately lead to their demise that much sooner...

younger generations won't have any issue with it I guess, I like the idea that older movies are shown in cinemas now and I can understand that for many kids grain and all the "defects" of analog projections are inconceivable, so these projections are really for them... but personally I'm getting too old and nostalgic to enjoy it. In the back of my mind I know that I'm watching something that is not exactly the same as it was when it first came out. Sometimes different all together, with new sound mixed, new foley, new colors, when not altered scenes. I'm getting old, to put it simply ahah

I just spotted this on ebay.

Aliens - orig full length 35mm trailer - Mono sound - LPP

It may not mean much, since 35mm prints of trailers get sold on ebay often, but this ad had pictures of frames from the print, so, I figured it was worth a heads up.
