It's been observed by myself and others that dual mono tracks on LD always have a minor volume difference between the L and R channels. I believe the reason for this is to prevent everything being sent to the centre speaker by a Dolby Pro Logic receiver.

Dual mono tracks on modern formats don't seem to do this and have identical L and R channels. So my question is; are modern receivers able to distinguish between plain 2.0 stereo tracks and matrixed DPL 2.0 tracks in a way that LD-era amps could not?

The reason I ask is that I've previously been 'correcting' all of my LD mono tracks by deleting one channel and then duplicating the other prior to muxing. But I'm worried that by doing so I'm dooming everything to the centre speaker on a multi-channel receiver. I only have a 2-channel set up currently so I'm unable to test any of this for myself.

I have the older 60th anniversary DVD which contains only the 5.1 remix. I don't know what the 70th DVD looks like, but 60th hasn't been grained scrubbed like the Blu-ray.

I've been working on a goofy idea for a joke video but am worried about posting it on Youtube. It involves doing a redub of a film. (which I used to do in college for a laugh) I'm only doing selected short scenes and cutting around using the entire sequences. I'm also doing all the audio myself without anything from the film. The goal is to make it like an old incomplete workprint with a different temp ADR audio track.

Has anyone ever tried to do something like this? I'm just terrified of getting copyright strikes. I guess it just depends on if the owner is overzealous or not about taking things down.

A few years ago I purchased a German Super 8mm release The Warriors. I think the time has come to look into getting it scanned. This will be a professional scan not one of those all in one units you get off ebay.

The approx cost for the scan is going to be $320 so I'm asking if any members wish to donate. I say approx as I don't know exactly how long this will run for, it's 3 x 110m which I think comes to 23-26 minutes per reel so somewhere between 69 and 78 minutes long. If it was 80 minutes the scan cost would be $320.

The print has German sound and the scanner isn't able capture this (it can be done externally for extra cost) but I'm not sure how sought after that will be.

I'd plan on cleaning it up as much as possible and syncing up as many languages and subtitle tracks as possible. I've processed a scan one before so I have a little understanding of what I'm doing.

Just to confirm the print is currently being looked after by another member who purchased it from Ebay German for me so I have not actually seen it, however I am told it was in extremely good condition.

A lot of the silents I fix have sloppy spot removal that results in frozen cloning from adjacent frames, like this:

I want to clone over frozen repairs, not from immediately adjacent frames as seen in this gif, but from arbitrarily distant frames to maintain motion. I also need to align/transform the patch to the new frame and have control over brush softness, like in Photoshop.

What are some software options that will let me do this? Preferably affordable or with student licensing. PFClean and Resolve Studio look close, but I can't tell if their manual tools are still automated. I don't want the software hunt for dirt, but only clone the area I select.

I'm looking for 4k grain reels (vids) I can use opacity to weave into my movie, something like 35mm, low-light, medium and bright scenes (perhaps).
Anyone know where to look for stuff like that? Not asking for warez, btw

The Japanese UHD of King Kong vs. Godzilla from 1963 has the original 4.0 mix packed as DTS-MA 5.1. The LFE channel is empty and the two back channels are identical. What is the correct way to convert this to FLAC 4.0 or DTS-MA 4.0? Is this even something worth doing?

So here's one for you knowledgeable people! This is the LD track of First Blood, and a middle part of it sounds much louder than the rest of the track. I am trying to figure out what is happenning here, and how should I deal with it? Just lower the volume down where it is too loud, or there's some other trick? Any advice would be very much appreciated!

I'm working on a fanres of a movie.
IMO, they were giving locations (ie. New York, USA), etc. whenever the characters traveled.
It seems like they were very specific for some scenes, then forgot to do it for later, and then just quit.
I am seeking to create more cohesiveness, and establish a "rule" to follow, so then I can know which locations to name when they go there.
Do you have any tips, suggestions for how I could create a general rule to follow for just how many locations I add as text on the screen?
There was a movie, Vantage Point (2008), that had a ticking timer counting down, and it just became too much, and monotonous, the audience started laughing every time the timer came on screen.
...So, I don't want to go that far.
Utilizing it too much will become annoying, acting as if the audience is very dumb, and cannot follow.. so I don't want to do that.
This movie is very international, so I was thinking "only when they change continents"... like a Bond movie would. But that might not be enough,.. there's a ton of location changes. So, I'm not sure.
