... from MKV (or any file) without conversion ? Why is it seemingly impossible - what's the big deal ?

Has anybody had a chance to test the Gandhi's stereo LD against the UHD? I have both and I tried to listen to them both, and thought that the UHD stereo sounds a bit more muffled in places and LD's stereo looks to have more room to breathe. But then, in places I am not so sure - they kind sound similar  Maybe someone with a better ear or some tech tools want to clear it up for me?

Editor here, very impressed and inspired by everything you folks are doing on this forum. Studios can barely be trusted to properly restore movies, it's great to see passionate people pick up their slack. I'm not really sure how to introduce myself; Eastbound & Down, Better Call Saul, and Mr. Robot are my favorite shows and my list of favorite movies is too long to share.

The 5.1 track on the Blu-ray release of 'InnerSpace' has lots of problems. So much clicking/crackling and slight distortion going on... 
I really wanted to fix that by replacing it with a stereo track from the DVD since this is one of my favorite Joe Dante movies.

Problem was it needed some editing first, but it syncs perfect now!
I converted it to a 16-bit .wav file.

I took the 2.0 AC3 track from the first DVD release of "Adventures in Babysitting" and synced it to the official blu-ray release, which only had a 5.1 option. When comparing i think the stereo track sounds a lot better.

This movie is so much fun!! The first movie Chris Columbus directed and i thought it deserved a better soundtrack option.

It's converted to 16-bit .wav 
Took quite some editing but syncs perfectly now : )

your previous DVD player has (way) more vibrant, more punchy picture than your current Blu-ray player.
Pioneer DV-LX50 is unable to play MKV and HD stuff as opposed to my current BDP-LX54, 
but ironically: DV-LX50 behaves more ''HD'' than BDP-LX54. 
I feel frustrated and had to bring it up here.
I would like some comfort.

This is the OAR release of Spider-Man: Far From Home - tonemapped to SDR, downscaled to 1080p, and debanded.
