  [Request] 1080i HDTV capture of the 1988 made-for-TV remake of Red River
Posted by: GordonQuid - 2017-12-11, 08:40 PM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - Replies (5)

Hello guys !

Did anybody of you have the Starz Encore Westerns channel ?

If yes, did it could be possible to do a 1080i HDTV capture of the 1988 made-for-TV remake of Red River ? It airs next Monday at 8:05 AM.

From what i'm aware, this one never got a Blu-Ray or DVD release, and i would like to made a fanmade Blu-Ray release for the film.

Thanks !

  A Fix For The Hard-to-see Dark Smileys
Posted by: BronzeTitan - 2017-12-09, 11:41 PM - Forum: Bug reports and suggestions - Replies (40)

I've always had a hard time making out the features of the "dark smileys". A close-up look reveals that only the eyes are white. It's features, and edges of overlaid hands (or whatever), are almost as dark as the black face. A simple one-shot application of brightness and contrast could give it better clarity, like the original smileys . .

  The Great Silence (1968) [SW] Grindhouse (35mm-German)

"Grindhouse version"  HD transfer from a rare German 35mm cinema copy made in 1969, HD, 98:48 min
Official released in Germany.

If someone want to sync English audio from Blu-Ray, DVD or LD can be great.
Japan Blu-Ray:  English DTS HD MA mono
And if it's possible to correct it in some other ways, maybe colors....

This is my first Spaghetti Western, but of course I don't saw it in cinema.

  Suggestion: Make search possible with less characters
Posted by: deleted user - 2017-12-09, 12:52 PM - Forum: Bug reports and suggestions - Replies (20)

I wanted to make a search for "VHS" and realized I couldn't because it was less than 4 characters.

Would be nice to be able to search for shorter terms too.

  Cinema DTS locomotive-like noise after 2 minutes?
Posted by: deleted user - 2017-12-09, 12:25 AM - Forum: General technical discussions - Replies (6)

I got a few Cinema DTS discs and on one of them, in each file after precisely 2 minutes a locomotive-like noise comes in, garbling the audio and making it unusable.

Any idea what this might be?

It does not occur in the trailers-file, only in the main files.

Update: Here's a short example of what I mean: https://www.sendspace.com/file/qzmk1y

  Revenge of the Sith 35mm reel on eBay
Posted by: deleted user - 2017-12-08, 12:33 PM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - Replies (3)

Just saw this on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/35mm-Feature-Fi...Sw9gRaIa~L

Has some nice shots in the article description that could possibly be used for a simple LUT color matching. It does seem to look better than the Blu Ray, from what I remember.

UPDATE: The seller was so kind as to provide his scans in a bit higher quality: https://imgur.com/a/LtcFd

  Брат / Brother (1997) - Cinema Polish

Брат / Brother (1997) - Cinema Polish

[Image: vN6rS9J.jpg]

Brother is one of the movies that I've never really known about, but once I watched it, I loved it. I was kinda disappointed to learn that there was no HD transfer available at the time, but two years we got iTunes transfer that suffers from few things, such as terrible color grading (similar to the one you'd see in A Better Tomorrow, 'muddy' screen throughout the movie), poor audio (2.0 AAC) and no subtitles at all (other than Russian).

So I've decided to get onto this problems and I present to you my own release under the name of Cinema Polish.

Using ColorMatch tool by Dr.Dre and low-quality HDTV recording (of SD transfer) I've managed to restore colours to look somewhat more natural now, in my opinion, it's a really big improvement over the original iTunes transfer. You can see the comparison below.

Comparison between untouched WEB-DL and Cinema Polish release:
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/125665
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/125666
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/125667

Release ships with following audio tracks:
- Russian - DTS-HD MA 5.1 - converted from DTS 5.1 DVD disc for Bluray compatibility;
- Russian - Dolby Digital 5.1 (384kbps) - sourced from Amalgama PAL DVD release;
- Russian - Dolby Digital 2.0 (192kbps) - sourced from iTunes WEB-DL, converted from AAC for Bluray compatibility;
- Three different Polish voiceovers (192kbps) - sourced from various sources (DVB, HDTV, DVD).

Subtitles:
- English (Tartan DVD) - subtitles from Amalgama DVD seem to be machine translated and contain a lot of grammar errors, Tartan DVD translation seems superior to me;
- Russian (iTunes);
- Spanish (Amalgama DVD);
- German (Amalgama DVD);
- French (Amalgama DVD);
- Italian (Amalgama DVD);
- Swedish (Amalgama DVD);
- Dutch (Amalgama DVD);
- Polish (Unknown translator) - very good translation containing some of the songs translated as well;
- Czech (Amalgama DVD).

The release is Bluray compliant.

  Dirty Harry remixes
Posted by: 00shevin - 2017-12-06, 09:38 PM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - Replies (13)

would like to get ahold of the original tracks for the dirty harry series - they have been ruined with fake sounding modern effects
don't think any laserdiscs have the mono versions but I think the earlier digital releases are just reprocessed for stereo without new SFX so they can be downmixed to mono. early 90's VHS tapes also have reprossed for stereo versions

magnum force with original SFX

  007 DTS HD vs AC3
Posted by: 00shevin - 2017-12-06, 08:03 PM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - Replies (15)

Compared a lot of 5.1 remixes to the original Ac3 and 90% of the time the ac3 tracks sound better but they are heavily compressed, aside from Spy who loved me which is around 448kps at 2.0 theres a lot of notable differences in reverb on the end of the movie its been taken out in the remix and most of the music sounds mono.

Hello
I heard mention of an Open Matte version of Showgirls and some googling led me here.  The projects here are impressive.  Myself, I've taken some Unrated VHS tapes and combined them R-rated DVDs.  I've only recently been attempting to color correct some of my VHS rips.  None of the stuff I've done is near as cool as what appears to be going here.  After seeing this forum I might have to up my game.  A few weeks ago I attempted to marry the open matte Friday the 13th Part 5 VHS with the HD blu-ray but wasn't happy with the results.
